This January, one of television’s most beloved fantasy universes turns the page with The Librarians: The Next Chapter, a thrilling new chapter in the globally adored franchise. Premiering on 4 January 2026 at 18:20 (CAT) on Universal TV (DStv Channel 117), the series promises high-stakes adventure, humour, and heart — all wrapped in a fresh narrative that honours its legacy while fearlessly expanding it.

A Librarian Lost in Time — and a World Unprepared for Magic

A spinoff of the hit series The Librarians, The Next Chapter introduces audiences to a compelling new premise: a Librarian from the past who time-travels to the present, only to find himself stranded in a world he barely recognises.

What should have been a homecoming quickly spirals into chaos. His ancient castle — once a bastion of secret knowledge — has become a public museum, and a single misstep unleashes powerful magic across the continent. Artifacts long contained now run wild, tilting the balance between order and enchantment.

To fix what he has inadvertently broken, the displaced Librarian is assigned a new team, setting off a race against time to recover rogue magical objects and restore stability to a world suddenly drenched in sorcery.

A Fresh Team, Familiar Wonder

At its core, The Librarians: The Next Chapter blends adventure with character-driven storytelling, combining sharp humour, emotional depth and imaginative world-building across a 12-episode season.

The series stars:

  • Callum McGowan (Jamestown, Raven’s Hollow)

  • Olivia Morris (Hotel Portofino, Rise Roar Revolt)

  • Bluey Robinson (Cats, Britannia)

  • Jessica Green (Roman Empire, The Outpost)

  • Caroline Loncq (No Offence, Nightflyers)

Together, the cast breathes new life into a universe where ancient knowledge, modern dilemmas and supernatural threats collide — delivering a story that is as playful as it is perilous.

The Creative Minds Behind the Magic

The series is executive produced by Dean Devlin, Marc Roskin, and Rachel Olschan-Wilson, the same creative forces behind the original The Librarians and several fan-favourite genre productions. Their return ensures that while The Next Chapter introduces new characters and challenges, it remains deeply rooted in the tone and spirit that fans know and love.

When and Where to Watch

Audiences across Africa can catch the magic unfold with double episodes every Sunday, beginning 4 January 2026, and running through 8 February 2026.

📺 Channel: Universal TV
📡 DStv: Channel 117
⏰ Premiere: Sunday, 4 January 2026 at 18:20 (CAT)

A New Chapter, A Timeless Promise

The Librarians: The Next Chapter is more than a continuation — it’s a reinvention. By placing ancient magic into a modern world unprepared for its return, the series explores what happens when history refuses to stay buried and knowledge demands responsibility.

For longtime fans and new viewers alike, this is an invitation to rediscover wonder, danger and discovery — one artifact at a time.
