The countdown to one of South Africa’s biggest electronic music festival experiences has officially begun. ULTRA South Africa will return for its 12th edition in 2027, bringing two cities together for a weekend of electronic music, large-scale production and multiple stages.
The festival kicks off at The Ostrich in Cape Town on Friday, 30 April 2027, before moving to the Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg on Saturday, 1 May 2027.
With early-bird Afterglow loyalty tickets already sold out, fans can now purchase Tier 1 General Access and VIP tickets.
Tickets are on sale now at ULTRASouthAfrica.com.
Two cities, one massive electronic music experience
ULTRA South Africa’s 2027 edition will deliver different stage experiences across its two host cities.
Cape Town will feature two stages, while Johannesburg will host four. Together, the stages will cover a broad spectrum of electronic music, from internationally recognised acts to underground sounds and homegrown talent.
The festival’s Main Stage will bring internationally renowned electronic music artists together with the large-scale production and visual spectacle associated with ULTRA Worldwide.
For fans drawn to the deeper side of electronic music, the RESISTANCE stage will focus on underground house and techno, showcasing sounds from the global electronic underground.
Johannesburg puts African electronic music in the spotlight
Johannesburg’s four-stage experience will also give African electronic music and emerging talent a dedicated platform.
The Groove Room returns with a focus on African electronic music and local artists. Its programming will span Afro-house, Amapiano, 3-Step, Gqom and Afro-tech.
The UMF Radio Stage will showcase emerging artists and regional talent, highlighting the next generation of electronic music.
This mix of international sounds, local genres and developing talent gives the Johannesburg event a broad musical offering. It also places African electronic music firmly within the festival experience.
ULTRA South Africa’s economic impact
Beyond the music, the festival is projected to contribute R500 million to the local economy and support more than 4,000 jobs.
The anticipated impact extends across tourism, hospitality and live entertainment logistics, highlighting the wider role large-scale festivals can play in supporting South Africa’s events industry.
With Cape Town and Johannesburg both hosting events, the 2027 edition will bring activity to two major destinations on consecutive days.
Relive the last edition with the official aftermovie
Fans will not have to wait long for another look at ULTRA South Africa’s most recent edition.
Following the sell-out of the Afterglow loyalty tickets, the festival will release its official 2026 aftermovie tomorrow, 28 October 2026, through ULTRA Worldwide’s official YouTube channel, UMF TV.
The aftermovie will give fans an opportunity to revisit highlights from the previous edition while anticipation builds for 2027.
