This Sunday, 22 January 2023, the Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts, in association with the City of Cape Town, will host the award-winning Cape Town Opera as they make a glorious return to Kirstenbosch accompanied by the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Brandon Phillips.

Cape Town Opera’s Artistic Director, Magdalene Minnaar, is delighted that the company will be returning to Kirstenbosch. “It is a joy to be able to perform once again in one of the Mother City’s most unique and iconic performance venues,” she said.

Under the musical direction of Cape Town Opera’s Marvin Kernelle, the concert will pay homage to operatic giants. It will feature excerpts from a cherished operatic repertoire bolstered by powerful orchestration and choral singing, guaranteed to lift the spirits. Featuring Verdi’s magnificent overture and the ‘Slave Chorus’ from Nabucco, Puccini’s Madame Butterfly, Beethoven’s 9th, Bizet’s Pearl Fishers and more, this performance by the stellar Cape Town Opera Chorus and company Soloists Brittany Smith, Conroy Scott and Lukhanyo Moyake is guaranteed to make spirits soar.

As Africa’s premier opera company, the world-renowned Cape Town Opera (CTO) fosters the expression of a national identity through the great operatic classics as well as the creation and performance of new South African works. Opera fans will be delighted with the CTO’s 2023 calendar, which is brimming with exciting, upcoming productions that include The Pearl Fishers, Master Class, Tosca and La Traviata.

“The City of Cape Town is proud to partner with Kirstenbosch to showcase one of South Africa’s largest performing arts organisations. We are incredibly excited to see the Cape Town Opera back at Kirstenbosch, mesmerising the crowd at such an incredible setting,” said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.

Enjoy an afternoon listening to a world-class musical performance on the slopes of Table Mountain. Pack a picnic or pre-order from the Kirstenbosch Tea Room or Moyo Restaurant five days in advance with all details on the Kirstenbosch website.

Tickets cost R190/p – R260/p at www.webtickets.co.za or the Kirstenbosch Ticket Office. Please note that Webtickets is the ONLY online ticketing partner.
