Quick Q&A with Cricketer, Tshepo Moreki

When Professional Cricketer, Tshepo Moreki comes to mind, so do adjectives such as talented, humble, focused and rising-star.Tshepo Moreki has more than just pace. From a young age, he showed the ability to attain late swing and land a devastating yorker.

Currently applying his professional trade for the Six Gun Grill WP Blitz, Tshepo is a force to be reckoned with and is set to make major strides within the cricketing world. As someone who believes that the world of cricket has “helped me connect better with people,” it’s a no brainer that the cricketer has stolen the hearts of many sports fanatics across the country.

Driven by making both his friends and family proud, we got an exclusive one-on-one with the Cape Town-based cricketing star, of whom we could all learn a thing or two from.

Who is Tshepo Moreki? How would you describe yourself?
An extremely committed, loyal person who isn’t a fan of inconsistent people.

What is your number one fitness tip?
Always do something that keeps you active!

What does it meant to you to be recognised in the South African cricket space – what do you lend your success to?
I have a high work ethic and I always put the needs of the team over my own.

Let’s chat cricket 2023. What is one goal you hope to achieve professionally?
I’d like to involved with the SAA team or the Proteas as well as the SA20.

As a cricket player, what would you describe as the hardest part of your job?
The traveling – you’re often away for long periods of time or often just moving from place to place.

Who has been your biggest inspiration in your cricket career within the last 12 months and why?
I would definitely have to say, Wayne Parnell.

What is one thing people don’t know about you?
As a sportsman who play cricket I’m allergic to grass!

What is one life lesson you will take away from being a sportsman one day?
Never to focus on outcomes, pour yourself and energy into the process and the outcome will take care of itself.

What do you want to be remembered for when you look back in 20 years?
I’d like to be remembered as someone who always gave everything to the team, and was a great teammate.

What was your childhood like?
Difficult at times but mostly enjoyable.

What was one of the most challenging setbacks you faced in your career but overcame?
One of the most common challenges but sometimes the most difficult – Injury!

As someone in the public eye, how do you use your platform to help and inspire others?
I struggle with that to this day, I try be myself as much as I can…

Do you have any pre-match rituals?
I avoid them at all cost, my superstition is to not have any superstitions.

How do you maintain a balanced and positive mindset?
I spend time away from cricket to recharge and keep the hunger there.

What are the top 3 current priorities in your life?
Family/friends, the team, my mental health.

Why are you so passionate about sports?
It brings people together and for a moment people forget about what’s going on in their lives.

How do you mentally deal with a bad practise or a bad performance?
Now it doesn’t really bother me, but it used to be a big problem for me. Teammates helped me get over that.

What do you believe is the greatest challenge sportsmen are facing today?
Shutting out the outside world and focusing on how you can help your team be the best it can be.

Must-have fitness accessory?
Smart watch, a foam roller and a Hyperice percussion gun.
