From Street to Sole: GALXBOY Drops Its First-Ever Sneaker Collection

GBX 012 Trainer

Johannesburg, South Africa — As the new year kicks off, GALXBOY is not easing into 2026 quietly. It is stepping forward — deliberately, decisively — into an entirely new category.

The brand has officially unveiled its first-ever sneaker line: the GBX 012 Trainer and the GBX 012 Runner.

For a label that has become synonymous with contemporary South African streetwear, this launch marks more than a product drop. It signals expansion, evolution and ambition — a bold chapter that strengthens GALXBOY’s position as a leading force in local fashion and design.

Years in the Making

This wasn’t a trend-driven pivot. The sneaker range was years in development.

From the outset, GALXBOY set out to create footwear that would authentically represent the brand — merging South African cultural identity with modern, forward-thinking design. The process became a collaborative journey across the wider GALXBOY team, each playing a role in translating vision into product.

To elevate that vision further, the brand partnered with UK-based creative footwear designer Andrew Turner in what founder Thatiso Dube describes as a “divinely aligned partnership.”

“Our vision was to create something truly exceptional — a sneaker that embodies culture, craftsmanship and innovation at the highest level,” Dube said. “Andrew brought invaluable international expertise and a global perspective to the collaboration, and together we’re proud to introduce our very first two sneaker offerings to the world.”

The mission was clear: design sneakers born from South African heritage and culture, yet refined enough to stand confidently in the global market.

The GBX 012 Trainer: Precision Meets Presence

The GBX 012 Trainer (Cupsole) captures GALXBOY’s signature balance between bold aesthetics and refined craftsmanship.

Built with a seamless quarter panel construction, the silhouette delivers a clean, elevated finish — a detail that demanded technical precision and innovation to execute correctly. The result is a premium trainer that merges statement design with everyday wearability.

It is not loud for the sake of noise. It is deliberate. Structured. Controlled. A reflection of a brand maturing its design language without losing its edge.

The GBX 012 Runner: Refined Performance Energy

If the Trainer speaks to understated authority, the GBX 012 Runner moves with performance-inspired dynamism.

Early design renders featured a sleek midsole concept. But real-world wear testing revealed the need for refinement to avoid an overly bulky silhouette. The midsole tooling was adjusted to ensure a streamlined profile while maintaining comfort and durability.

Special focus was placed on heel construction, where the outsole was modified to increase ground contact and withstand heavier wear. The result is a runner that balances aesthetics with function — engineered for longevity without sacrificing visual impact.

Turner, reflecting on the collaboration, described it as energising and humbling.

“Having worked with huge global brands over the span of my career, being a part of this particular collaboration was extremely exciting for me,” he said. “The original sketches were already about 90% there in terms of vision. The final 10% came through refining the details and working through the construction challenges. For me, the finished designs are truly iconic — definitely one for the books.”

A New Category, A Broader Vision

The GBX 012 Trainer and GBX 012 Runner represent more than footwear. They signal the next evolution of GALXBOY’s brand identity — carrying the spirit of modern South African youth into a new design arena.

The collection will be available at GALXBOY stores nationwide and online via the brand’s official store.

And according to the brand, this is only the beginning. Plans for 2026 are already in motion, promising bigger collaborations, new product categories and major cultural moments.

From street to sole, GALXBOY is not simply expanding.

It is redefining its stride.
