Sony has introduced the FE 8-14mm F3.5 Fisheye G, a new full-frame fisheye zoom designed to move between two very different visual perspectives in one compact lens.
Announced in South Africa on 9 September 2026, the lens combines an 8-14mm zoom range, 180-degree viewing angles, G Lens optical performance and a lightweight 314g design. It is aimed at photographers, cinematographers and content creators working across landscapes, architecture, sport, video and spatial content.

From circular fisheye to diagonal fisheye
The headline feature is the lens’s unusual range of fisheye perspectives.
At 8mm, the FE 8-14mm F3.5 Fisheye G produces a circular fisheye image. Its 180-degree angle of view is projected as a circular image on a full-frame sensor.
Zoom to 14mm, and the experience changes. The lens delivers a diagonal fisheye perspective across the full frame, also with a 180-degree diagonal angle of view.
That gives creators the freedom to change the look of an image without changing lenses.
It is a particularly useful approach for subjects where scale and perspective matter. Landscapes can stretch dramatically across the frame. Architecture can take on an entirely different visual character. Sports photographers can bring the environment into the action, while filmmakers can use the exaggerated perspective as part of the visual language.

G Lens resolution in a compact body
Extreme wide-angle lenses can be challenging to design. Sony has therefore combined ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass and aspherical elements in the FE 8-14mm F3.5 Fisheye G.
The optical design is intended to suppress chromatic and other aberrations while maintaining high resolution across the image area and throughout the zoom range.
The lens also focuses as close as 0.15 metres, with a maximum magnification of 0.22x at the telephoto end.
That creates another creative option: getting physically close to a subject while exaggerating the surrounding environment.
The result can be particularly dramatic for still photography and video where foreground scale is part of the composition.
Small enough to take almost anywhere
Despite its unusual optical capabilities, Sony has kept the lens compact.
The FE 8-14mm F3.5 Fisheye G measures approximately 63.1mm in maximum diameter and 82.8mm in length. It weighs approximately 314g.
That matters for creators who move frequently.
The lens is designed for handheld shooting, gimbals and rigs. Sony has also used an internal zoom mechanism, which helps minimise changes to the centre of gravity while zooming.
For video creators, that can make handling more predictable when changing focal lengths during a shoot.
Sony’s specifications confirm the lens uses a manual zoom system and has a maximum aperture of F3.5.
Built with video creators in mind
The FE 8-14mm F3.5 Fisheye G is not simply a stills lens with video capability.
Sony has equipped it with features aimed specifically at movie production, including fast and precise autofocus, Linear Response Manual Focus and technology designed to suppress focus breathing.
The lens also uses a linear-motor focus drive system. Sony says the focus system and circular aperture unit operate quietly to help prevent lens noise from interfering with movie audio.
Creators also get an aperture ring with switchable click stops, alongside focus and zoom controls.
There is a focus mode switch and zoom lock switch, giving photographers and filmmakers more direct control over how the lens behaves during a shoot.
A fisheye lens with spatial ambitions
Perhaps one of the most intriguing applications is spatial content production.
Sony says the FE 8-14mm F3.5 Fisheye G can be used in a dual-lens configuration with the VENICE Extension System Mini for spatial content production.
When two of the lenses are positioned side by side using two VENICE Extension System Mini units, their optical axes can be positioned approximately 64mm apart.
That is close to the average distance between human eyes.
The configuration is therefore designed to support spatial content, including VR, with a natural sense of depth and distance.
This gives the lens a role beyond conventional photography. Its extremely wide field of view can also contribute to immersive visual experiences.
Ready for challenging outdoor environments
The lens is also designed with outdoor use in mind.
Sony has given the FE 8-14mm F3.5 Fisheye G a dust- and moisture-resistant design, while the front element features a fluorine coating.
These features are intended to support reliability when shooting outdoors and make it easier to keep the front element clean.
Sony does note that the dust- and moisture-resistant design should not be interpreted as making the lens completely dust- or moisture-proof.

For South African creators, the new lens is scheduled to arrive from mid-November 2026.
The recommended retail price is R81,999.99.
That places the lens firmly in Sony’s professional imaging space, but its combination of an 8-14mm zoom range, circular and diagonal fisheye perspectives, compact 314g body, autofocus capabilities and spatial-content potential makes it a notably specialised addition to the Alpha E-mount system.
Sony’s official specifications list the lens as an 8-14mm full-frame E-mount lens, with a 180-degree angle of view, F3.5 maximum aperture, 0.15m minimum focusing distance and 0.22x maximum magnification.
A new perspective for creators
The FE 8-14mm F3.5 Fisheye G is ultimately about perspective.
