Wild Child Africa proudly presents the 2024 edition of their PONDO Trail Run, set to take place from May 22nd to May 26th. This annual one-day ULTRA and three-day COASTER trail running event unfolds along the awe-inspiring northern section of the Wild Coast, known as Pondoland. The event promises not only world class trail-running and unmatched hospitality, but also an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
At the heart of the PONDO Trail Run lies a dedication to raising funds for charitable causes. Building upon the success of previous years, the 2024 edition of the event aims to rally participants to support the vital work of the Pondoland Conservation Trust and Cipla’s Miles for Smiles initiative. Funds raised will contribute to conservation efforts in the region and provide life-changing corrective surgery for children with cleft conditions, embodying Wild Child Africa’s ethos of giving back to the communities through which they traverse.
Paul Miller, CEO of Cipla South Africa, emphasized the alignment between the event and their commitment to making a profound difference in people’s lives and local communities. Miller stated, “We don’t have a strategy, we have a cause. We don’t have a vision statement, we have vision. So, we’re excited to join forces with Wild Child Africa to help ensure a future that’s focused on the well-being of people and our beautiful planet.”
Once again, generous sponsors Sealand, are joining Wild Child Africa in their mission. This proudly South African lifestyle brand, shares Wild Child Africa’s commitment to environmental stewardship and social responsibility, making them the perfect partner for the PONDO Trail Run. “Conservation of our natural playgrounds lies at the heart of our brand’s mission, and finding a partner who not only understands, but actively supports this vision, is truly exhilarating. Together, we can achieve far more than we ever could alone.” Says Sealand CEO, Adrian Hewlett.
Devil’s Peak, celebrated local brewing company, joins forces with the Wild Child team once again at this year’s event, owning the finish line each day and generously providing participants with ice-cold beer to celebrate their remarkable achievements on the trail. Devil’s Peak expressed their commitment for this unique experience, stating, “This is a truly unique experience. We celebrate the passion and love that Wild Child Africa has for this part of our country and we recognise their efforts to conserve its untouched beauty. The participants embark on a life-changing, unforgettable adventure and we are proud to be associated with this incredible event”.
This year’s event, in partnership with The Wild Coast Sun, sees the launch of the PONDO Trail Run “Gift of Warmth” initiative. As the colder winter months approach, participants are encouraged to donate warm children’s clothes and blankets. These donations will be hand delivered by runners along the trail, allowing them to spread warmth and compassion to children in need.
“We are thrilled to once again invite runners to join us for the PONDO Trail Run, where adventure meets purpose,” said Matt Botha, founder of Wild Child Africa. “Together with our sponsors, participants, and partners, we are not only exploring the wonders of Pondoland, but also making a tangible difference in the lives of others.”
The 2024 PONDO Trail Run promises to be an unforgettable journey, filled with challenges, triumphs, purpose, and moments of inspiration.
