Since 1959, Barbie has inspired the limitless potential in every girl. With over 250 careers spotlighted and a legacy of empowerment spanning three generations, Barbie continues to evolve as a modern reflection of the world today. Central to this mission is the Barbie Inspiring Women Series, and this August, Barbie proudly welcomes tennis icon, entrepreneur, and pay equity champion Venus Williams to the Inspiring Women Series.

Just as Barbie has spent over 65 years igniting imaginations and inspiring girls to believe they can be anything, Venus Williams continues to inspire globally through her athletic achievements, entrepreneurship, and advocacy for equality. With seven Grand Slam singles titles, 14 Grand Slam doubles wins, and four Olympic gold medals, she has cemented herself as one of the most decorated athletes in the history of tennis.

Beyond her titles, Williams’ advocacy for equal prize money at Wimbledon in 2007 marked a watershed moment for gender equality in sports. She has since continued to champion causes that empower women, including serving as a founding ambassador for the WTA-UNESCO Gender Equality Program.

“Growing up, I was taught early on that anything is possible with hard work and perseverance,” said Venus Williams. “That belief has guided me to break barriers and use my platform to champion causes like equal pay, not just for myself, but for those who come after me. Being honored as a Barbie Inspiring Woman is incredibly special. I hope this doll encourages young people to dream big, know their worth, and pursue their goals with confidence and heart.”

Role models like Venus Williams embody the limitless possibilities that Barbie has stood for since its inception. Research shows that girls involved in sports are more likely to believe they are smart enough for their dream careers, build higher self-confidence, and develop leadership aspirations. By celebrating Venus Williams through play, Barbie continues its mission to help close the “Dream Gap” and show every girl that she can be anything.

The Inspiring Women Venus Williams Doll was created in close collaboration with Williams to authentically capture her appearance and style. The doll wears the iconic white uniform from her 2007 Grand Slam tournament win, accessorized with a green gem necklace inspired by her winning look, along with a wristband, visor, tennis racket, and ball. This outfit commemorates the moment she became the first woman in tennis to earn equal prize money at a top-level tournament.

Previous honorees in the Barbie Inspiring Women Series include historical and modern icons such as Dr. Maya Angelou, Billie Jean King, Rosa Parks, Frida Kahlo, Ida B. Wells, Amelia Earhart, Eleanor Roosevelt, Anna May Wong, Dr. Jane Goodall, Madam C.J. Walker, and Florence Nightingale.

The Barbie Inspiring Women Venus Williams Doll will be available from August 15, 2025, at leading retailers nation wide, at an RSP of R939,99.
