Discover Sport™ Launches Game-Changing Social Platform Giving Every Athlete a Voice

Johannesburg, 2 September 2025 – A new era for sport has arrived. Today, at the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC), Discover Sport™ officially launched the world’s first dedicated sports-only social platform — designed to put the power back into the hands of athletes, fans, and federations.

Its mission is bold yet simple: every athlete, everywhere, deserves to be seen, heard, and celebrated.

One Home for All of Sport

From Olympic champions to school-level dreamers, Discover Sport™ is a mobile-first, free-to-use platform built for every discipline under the sun. Rugby, swimming, padel, gymnastics, boxing, esports, chess, showjumping — no sport is too big or too small.

Unlike traditional social media, which sidelines fewer mainstream sports, Discover Sport™ treats every story with equal value. Athletes can share training clips, match highlights, or their journey from the ground up, while federations and media houses publish official content, broadcasts, and documentaries side by side.

“This isn’t just another app,” says Stephen Watson, Founder of Discover Sport™. “It’s a purpose-driven platform where ambition truly lives. Athletes tell their stories, fans connect authentically, and brands can finally invest in building sustainable sporting futures.”

Built to Empower Athletes

Discover Sport™ isn’t only about visibility — it’s about opportunity. The platform embeds:

  • 🎥 Live Streaming: Giving overlooked competitions a stage beyond mainstream broadcasters.

  • 📚 Coaching & Mentorship: Athletes and pros can publish training content, vlogs, and educational material.

  • 🔍 Scouting Tools: Agents, scouts, and managers can track talent with precision using customised alerts and streamlined athlete profiles.

  • 🎬 Content Harmony: User-generated and professional content coexist seamlessly.

  • ⚡ Short-form Highlights: Under 2-minute clips and featured content sit front and centre on the app.

And in a first for the sports world, Discover Sport™ introduces ByteBucks™ (patent pending) — a loyalty rewards system that gives fans tangible rewards for engaging with athlete content. Already redeemable with Vodacom, MTN, Telkom, and Cell C, ByteBucks™ will soon extend into sports ticketing, retail, and global e-commerce partners.

Proven, Tested, and Trusted

Even before its official launch, Discover Sport™ has already walked the talk. In its pilot phase, the platform streamed the 2025 Invictus Games, the WBC World Championship Boxing, the SA Davis Cup, the World Games in Chengdu, and the IBERCUP youth football tournament.

It worked hand-in-hand with young athletes to sharpen their digital presence, helping them grow followings, attract sponsors, and inspire their communities.

Partnerships already span Tennis South Africa, Boxing South Africa, 360 Padel, Pirates Rugby Club, the SA Youth Showjumping Championships, and global sports shows like FEI’s RIDE, Inside Sailing, World of Free Sports, and World Chess.

Giving Back: The Discover Sport™ Foundation

Aligned with its purpose, Discover Sport™ launched a foundation to uplift grassroots and underfunded athletes. Already, it has:

  • Supported 52 young athletes to compete internationally.

  • Upgraded two sports facilities.

  • Donated kits and equipment to eight youth sports initiatives.

With partners like Air France, KLM, and Delta Airlines, the Foundation is set to scale its impact globally.

Global Reach, Local Heart

Though born in South Africa, Discover Sport™ is built for the world. A gymnast in California, a footballer in Nigeria, a surfer in Australia — every athlete now has a platform to share their journey.

“Discover Sport™ is more than a product,” Watson concludes. “We’re building a global movement. A community where ambition has a home, visibility is equal, and the next generation of athletes can finally be discovered.”

The Future of Sport is Here

With over 1,800 athlete channels and nearly 3,200 videos uploaded during its BETA phase, Discover Sport™ is already proving its staying power. Now live and free on iOS, Android, and web, the platform is ready to scale its vision: a sporting ecosystem where every athlete matters.
