Global Citizen has confirmed that Grammy® award-winning global superstar Doja Cat will headline the South African leg of the 2026 Move Afrika Tour — the third edition of a ground-breaking pan-African music touring circuit designed to fuel Africa’s creative economy.

And this year, the movement grows louder.

More Than a Concert — A Touring Circuit With Purpose

Now entering its third year, Move Afrika continues its long-term mission: to build the first pan-African music touring circuit driven by international artists while expanding economic opportunity across host cities.

The 2026 edition will see Rwanda and South Africa host the tour. It begins with Move Afrika: Kigali at BK Arena on 17 March, before landing in Pretoria for Move Afrika: Pretoria at Sunbet Arena, Time Square on Friday, 20 March 2026.

But beyond stage lights and chart-topping performances lies a deeper objective — job creation, skills development and long-term investment in Africa’s live entertainment ecosystem.

Each edition is structured to stimulate employment across production, logistics, marketing, staging, and event operations, creating ripple effects that extend beyond the night of the show.

A Headliner With Roots That Matter

Regarded globally as the “Queen of Pop-Rap,” Doja Cat is celebrated for her genre-blending versatility, live performance energy and commanding stage presence. Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, she carries strong South African roots through her father, South African actor Dumisani Dlamini.

Her father’s Zulu heritage forms part of her identity — a connection she openly acknowledges. While raised in the United States by her Jewish-American mother, Doja Cat identifies with her South African ancestry.

“From my South African roots straight to the world stage, we’re bringing energy, purpose, and real change to Move Afrika in Kigali and Pretoria. This isn’t just a tour, it’s a movement that creates jobs and opportunities that last,” said Doja Cat.
“I’m proud to be part of something that celebrates Africa’s creativity, invests in its future, and shows the world that Africa isn’t coming, it’s already here.”

Her presence is symbolic — not simply of star power, but of diaspora reconnection and global collaboration.

Africa’s Creative Economy in Focus

Move Afrika is designed as more than a series of performances. Its long-term ambition is to institutionalise touring infrastructure across the continent — strengthening production capabilities, investing in local talent pipelines and positioning African cities as global entertainment destinations.

By anchoring major international acts in African arenas, the initiative seeks to accelerate the continent’s creative economy and create sustainable employment pathways for young Africans.

As Africa’s cultural influence continues to rise globally, Move Afrika positions itself at the intersection of entertainment and economic development.

The Bigger Picture

Music tours traditionally measure success in ticket sales and chart numbers. Move Afrika measures success in opportunity created.

With Doja Cat headlining its South African leg, the 2026 edition underscores a powerful message: Africa is not waiting for recognition — it is building its own global stage.

And this time, the world is watching.
