There is something unmistakably magical about a Johannesburg summer afternoon — golden sunshine, clinking glasses, laughter drifting across manicured lawns. At The Maslow in Sandton, that magic has been curated into an elegant monthly affair that continues to define what a Sunday well spent should look like.

The Sunday Society Picnics are back, transforming the hotel’s lush gardens into a refined social escape where chic fashion meets gourmet indulgence. Running monthly until May 2026, this elevated picnic experience has quickly become one of Sandton’s most anticipated lifestyle events.

Set against the immaculate lawns of The Maslow, each Sunday Society picnic delivers a seamless blend of style, flavour and atmosphere. Guests are welcomed with a glass of Graham Beck bubbly, live entertainment sets the tone, and a thoughtfully curated picnic basket for two is paired with a generous hot food selection. Whether you’re a returning devotee or a first-time guest, the experience promises effortless sophistication, meaningful connection and unforgettable Sunday vibes.

Sparkle, Style and Sun-Soaked Elegance

The season opens with the January edition, themed Sparkle in the Sun, encouraging guests to embrace dazzling sequins and glowing metallics that capture the carefree energy of summer. Radiant tones, shimmering details and standout looks turn the lawns into a runway of relaxed glamour.

As guests sip their welcome bubbly, they can snack on popcorn and house-made potato crisps from the picnic basket before indulging in sweet treats including churros, ginger cheesecake and red velvet opera cake.

A Feast Designed for Leisurely Indulgence

The culinary offering is a celebration of abundance and variety. The Harvest Table features a selection of breads and dips, salads, and a cheese board with crackers and preserves. From the hot buffet, guests can enjoy beef kebabs with chimichurri, panko prawns with coconut aioli, lasagne, pork loin piccata, and cheese arancini, with vegan options available.

Each season introduces a refreshed menu, ensuring that every return visit delivers a new and vibrant experience.

Love, Friendship and Fashion-Forward Sundays

One of the standout dates on the calendar is the Valentine’s edition on Sunday, 15 February 2026, themed around love. Guests are invited to dress in styled white with a hint of red, creating a romantic and visually striking setting.

For those wanting to turn the occasion into a full weekend escape, The Maslow offers a Saturday night stay for two, including breakfast at Lacuna Bistro on Sunday morning before the picnic. This stay-over option is available for every picnic weekend.

February also welcomes “Galentine’s” celebrations, making Sunday Society just as perfect for friends as it is for couples. Whether it’s best friends, stylish social circles or romantic partners, these picnics are designed to celebrate connection in all its forms.

A Season of Distinctive Themes

The picnic season continues through autumn with carefully curated fashion themes:

  • 1 March 2026 – Monochrome Chic: Head-to-toe single-colour styling

  • 5 April 2026 – Denim & White: Where smart meets casual

  • 10 May – Mother’s Day: A gentle pastel palette inspired by love, warmth and celebration

Each event offers a new reason to dress up, unwind and indulge — proving that Sundays at The Maslow are anything but ordinary.
