Time Square Hotel Ushers in a New Era for Pretoria Hospitality

Pretoria’s entertainment skyline quietly but confidently shifted as The Maslow Time Square officially became Time Square Hotel, a strategic rebranding that marked a new chapter for one of Gauteng’s most dynamic hospitality destinations.

The renaming, effective immediately, was designed to sharpen brand identity while aligning guest expectations with the hotel’s distinctive offering. Importantly, the change was one of name and communication only. Ownership, management and service standards remained firmly intact.

“While our name changed, guests could be assured that our ownership, management, and commitment to delivering exceptional service remained the same,” said Ruben Gooranah, General Manager of Time Square Hotel.

All existing reservations, negotiated rates and contracts continued without disruption, ensuring a seamless transition for returning and future guests.

A First for South Africa: Three Gradings, One Hotel

What truly set Time Square Hotel apart — and continued to do so — was its groundbreaking multi-tier room grading, a first in South Africa. Recognised by the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa (TGCSA), the hotel uniquely offered three-star, four-star and five-star graded rooms under one roof.

This innovative structure allowed travellers to tailor their stay according to budget, preference and purpose, without sacrificing consistency in service.

“The innovative concept allowed travellers to tailor their accommodation to suit their needs and budget,” explained Lesego Kitsa, Rooms Division Manager.

Across all 238 rooms, including 10 suites, contemporary styling, comfort and a warm welcome came standard. The differentiation lay in room size, layout and finishes — not in the quality of service, which remained five-star throughout the property.

Designed for Every Kind of Stay

The three-star Foundation Rooms, measuring 24m², featured either twin beds or a queen-sized bed, a work desk and a bathroom with shower — ideal for short stays or business travellers.

The four-star Median Rooms, at 27m², offered increased comfort with twin or king-sized beds, a work desk, coffee machine and modern bathroom.

At the top end, the five-star Zenith Level Rooms delivered indulgence across 36m² of space, complete with twin or king-sized beds, premium finishes, a desk, coffee machine, and separate bath and shower.

Guests staying on the Zenith Level also enjoyed exclusive access to a premium breakfast buffet in the Luminary Lounge on the 12th floor, along with sunset views from the Solis Bar, which featured its own splash pool.

A Destination Beyond the Room

As part of the Sun International stable, Time Square Hotel formed the heart of Gauteng’s largest integrated gaming, entertainment and leisure destination. The precinct brought together a casino, hotel, retail spaces and the iconic 8 500-seat SunBet Arena, which had hosted international and local stars including Bryan Adams (2026), UB40 (2026), Kenny G (2025) and Michael Flatley’s Lord of the Dance (2025).

Located opposite Menlyn Maine Mall, the hotel placed guests at the centre of Pretoria’s shopping and dining scene. Families were catered for with The Magic Company, offering arcade games, AR experiences and ten-pin bowling, while The Tick Tocks Crèche provided supervised childcare.

Fitness enthusiasts enjoyed a 24-hour gym with panoramic 360-degree views of Menlyn and Pretoria, further reinforcing the hotel’s appeal to both leisure and business travellers.

Guest Experience That Speaks for Itself

Guest feedback reflected the success of the concept. One Google reviewer, Roxy Janzen, praised the hotel’s location, spacious rooms and seamless service, noting the breathtaking views, thoughtful amenities and exceptionally fast room service.

Another guest, Tasneem Patel, highlighted the convenience of nearby shopping centres, the well-equipped gym and the comfort of the Foundation Rooms, describing the breakfast offering as satisfying and well balanced.

Flexible Value, Five-Star Service

Operating on dynamic pricing, Time Square Hotel offered bed-and-breakfast options across all room gradings. Entry-level rooms suited short visits, while four-star and five-star options catered to longer stays and families exploring the city.

“Despite the variable room rating, we were proud that the service standard throughout the hotel — from reception to restaurants and facilities — was five-star,” said Kitsa.

The hotel further expanded its appeal with value-added packages, including Date Night experiences, Stay-3-Pay-2 offers and Senior Citizen packages, all available via the Sun International website booking engine.

Notably, The Maslow Hotel in Sandton remained unchanged, continuing to operate independently within the group.

With its official renaming complete, Time Square Hotel stood as a refined, flexible and distinctly South African hospitality concept — one that redefined how luxury, choice and experience could coexist under a single roof.
