Workshop17 Laces Up for Little Lions Loop, Championing Children’s Mental Health

In a world where productivity is often prized above wellbeing, Workshop17 is making a powerful statement: work does not exist in isolation from mental health — especially the mental health of children.

The coworking community is returning to the Little Lions Loop on 9 February 2026, reaffirming its commitment to children’s emotional wellbeing after a meaningful debut in 2025. This year, Workshop17 is going even further, sponsoring 10 mental health coaching sessions for children and mobilising its entire Cape Town network to participate in the event.

The Little Lions Loop is more than just a run. It is a 5km walk and run designed to raise funds for Little Lions Child Coaching, an organisation dedicated to placing practical mental health tools into the hands of children in Khayelitsha, Mfuleni and surrounding communities, where access to emotional support remains limited for many young people.

From Member Moment to Meaningful Movement

Workshop17’s involvement began through one of its own. When Sweet Spot, a Workshop17 member, invited the coworking space to take part in the 2025 Little Lions Loop, the experience left a lasting impression. What started as a simple introduction has since grown into a genuine partnership rooted in shared values.

At the heart of that partnership is a belief that wellbeing is not an add-on — it is essential.

“Wellbeing and mental health are core values at Workshop17, so supporting Little Lions feels like a natural extension of who we are,” says Penelope Meniere, Marketing Manager at Workshop17. “We believe that work is just one part of a balanced, healthy life, and when we can contribute to the emotional wellbeing of children who might otherwise never access mental health support, that’s something worth showing up for.”

Changing Young Lives, One Emotional Tool at a Time

Little Lions Child Coaching works directly with children, equipping them with skills to understand their emotions, build confidence and develop resilience. These tools are often life-changing, particularly in communities where mental health resources are scarce.

Beyond Khayelitsha and Mfuleni, the organisation also partners with groups delivering the Little Lions Programme in George, Somerset West, Johannesburg, Nairobi and Eldoret, extending its impact well beyond the Western Cape.

The Loop itself is intentionally inclusive. Open to all fitness levels, participants are encouraged to walk, jog or run, with the emphasis placed firmly on collective action rather than competition.

How Every Step Makes a Difference

The impact of participation and donations is tangible:

  • R250 provides one child with access to 12 workshop sessions

  • R2,500 supports 10 children through a complete Little Lions programme

Workshop17’s sponsorship of 10 coaching sessions means more children will gain access to emotional support that could shape the rest of their lives.

How to Get Involved

Registration for the Little Lions Loop 2026 is now open, and those who cannot attend in person can still contribute through donations via Stripe and SnapScan.
