It’s all fun and games this winter… if you are properly prepared

Winter is back and that means fewer trips outside, and more time spent bonding with your favourite games. Whether you are a Fortnite fanatic, a Candy Crush queen or just want to play the Last of Us because the series was so good, winter is the perfect time get some good gaming in. To make sure you make the most out of your chilly season gaming sessions, make sure you hook yourself up with the following:

Power Up
RnB superstar Usher once said, “Situations will arise”, at the time no one knew we would be able to apply that to loadshedding but here we are. Not having power for a portion of the day is inevitable and if you are planning on spending it indoors then you are going to need something to power your gaming set-up. Inverters are a great idea if you own your house but can be a little costly. If you just want to keep your PC, console or device going, then you may be better off opting for portable power station. They’re a fraction of the price of an inverter or a solar set up and will help make sure you’ll have fun twiddling your thumbs.

Put It All on the Line
What do Hogwarts Legacy, Street Fighter 6, Minecraft Legends, Star Wars: Jedi Survivor, and Final Fantasy 16 all have in common? They are some of the blockbuster titles that will be available before spring arrives. With all of that to choose from, it’s important to remember that having a stable internet connection as a gamer is no longer an option but a necessity. After all, buying a physical copy of a game in this day and age is like buying a DVD. Regardless of what platform you use, most games will need to be downloaded and no one wants to wait half a day while your game downloads.

The bare minimum connection that you should choose for online gaming is one that operates at 20Mbps download speeds and is uncapped. From as little as R499 you can hook yourself up with a Vuma affiliated Internet Service Provider (ISP) and get an uncapped 50/50 mbps line.

Don’t forget that upload speeds matter too. If you are interested in playing online, then you are going to need to make sure that or sharing your gameplay experience with others then you’re going to need to make sure you can upload as quickly as you can download.

“Most people only consider download speeds over upload speeds for streaming their favourite content or scrolling through social media feeds,” says Lianne Williams, of Vuma. “However, upload speed can play a considerably more crucial role than it gets credit for especially if you want to have fun on Twitch.”

Comfort Gives You the Edge:
Any good marathon session requires comfort. No one wants to find themselves squirming in uncomfortable pants while fighting the final boss. Take your new winter gaming lifestyle seriously and invest in a onesie or sweatpants with an accompanying hoodie. Add some fingerless gloves and some fluffy slippers and you’ll be ready to ride out the winter better than a squirrel with a burrow full of nuts.

Whether you are playing your favourite remastered game for the umpteenth time or settling in for 60 hours of the latest mainstream mega hit, if you have the right things in place, this winter could see you living in a gamer’s paradise.
