Pick n Pay celebrates opening of 400th clothing store in South Africa

PnP Clothing has reached a major milestone with the opening of its 400th stand-alone store at Westgate Mall in Roodepoort, Gauteng. This landmark moment marks more than two decades of consistent growth for the brand and reflects its increasing relevance in South Africa’s dynamic retail landscape.

Despite rising input costs and constrained household spending, South Africa’s clothing and textile industry continues to show growth, with demand increasing for affordable, sustainable, and locally relevant fashion. According to Statista, revenue in South Africa’s apparel market is expected to grow annually by 5.85%, driven largely by everyday essentials and ethically produced items across womenswear, menswear, and childrenswear.

This positive trajectory is reflected in Pick n Pay Clothing’s own results, with turnover in stand-alone stores growing steadily in the latest reported period. This performance, driven by improved execution and better product availability, highlights the brand’s ability to capture value in a shifting retail environment.

Since opening its first store in Menlyn Mall in 2002, PnP Clothing has grown to become one of South Africa’s fastest-growing apparel retailers, positioning the business at the forefront of these consumer trends. With the launch of its 400th store, the brand is doubling down on its core promise: quality, affordable fashion for the whole family, delivered through a modern, sustainable, and community-focused retail experience.

The new Westgate store, the flagship for the West Rand region, features PnP Clothing’s latest store design concept, rolled out earlier this year. The store offers a spacious layout and a more immersive customer experience. Even the fitting rooms are themed with local “Did You Know?” facts about Gauteng, giving a unique, community-focused twist to the shopping experience.
