The 11th Floor Makes a Case for the Long Lunch

A two-course Restaurant Week XXL menu invites Johannesburg diners to slow down, savour signature flavours and turn lunch into an occasion.

Johannesburg is a city that knows how to keep moving.

Lunch can disappear between meetings, deadlines and the next thing on the calendar. But this spring, The 11th Floor is making a different proposition: perhaps lunch deserves more time.

From 25 September to 1 November 2026, the Bedfordview restaurant will take part in Restaurant Week XXL with a specially curated two-course lunch menu priced at R700 per person.

And this is not simply a pared-back introduction to the restaurant.

Set against the Johannesburg skyline, the menu brings together a selection of The 11th Floor’s signature dishes while staying true to the flavours, techniques and ingredients behind its Mediterranean-inspired cuisine.

For Executive Chef Kyle Marshall, the idea was simple: Restaurant Week should still taste unmistakably like The 11th Floor.

“Restaurant Week should still feel unmistakably like The 11th Floor,” says Marshall. “We wanted to create a menu that gives guests real choice and reflects the full experience of the restaurant. Whichever dishes they choose, lunch should feel like an occasion.”

Start with a choice of three

The two-course experience begins with a choice of three starters, each offering a distinctly different route into the menu.

The Patagonian Squid can be grilled or fried and is served with garlic aioli, charred lemon and coarse olive salt.

Then there is Pork Agrodolce. Crisp-fried pork belly is coated in a sweet and sticky barbecue glaze, with pickled carrot ribbons and fermented red chilli bringing contrast to the dish.

For vegetarian diners, the Sun-Dried Tomato & Olive Tortellini brings together house-made tortellini filled with sun-dried tomato and olive.

It is served with grilled artichoke, sweet peas and charred baby onions. Crispy spinach and a fermented pepper emulsion finish the dish.

Three starters. Three different ways to begin.

Then comes the main event

The main course selection continues the restaurant’s approach to bold flavours and carefully paired components.

The Fire-Grilled Beef Fillet is a 250g cut served with smoky grilled oyster mushrooms and mushroom crème.

Yuzu gel adds a citrus note, while carrot ribbons, crispy mushroom arancini and tender edamame add further texture and flavour. The dish is finished with The 11th Floor’s signature jus.

The Mediterranean Lamb Rack takes a different direction.

The flame-grilled marinated lamb rack is served on red pepper hummus alongside potato pavé, caper mayonnaise and fire-roasted peppers. Signature jus completes the plate.

For seafood lovers, the Sea Bass arrives crisp-skinned and pan-seared, with a delicate flake and buttery crushed new potatoes.

A warm puttanesca of ripe tomatoes, capers, olives and a hint of chilli brings Mediterranean character, while sugar snap peas add fresh crunch.

Six choices, countless lunch moods

The structure is deliberately simple.

Each guest chooses one of three starters and one of three main courses.

That means the same Restaurant Week table can unfold differently from one diner to the next.

More importantly, the menu gives guests a chance to experience some of the dishes that define The 11th Floor without stripping away the restaurant’s identity.

That is the thinking behind Chef Marshall’s approach.

The result is a Restaurant Week menu designed not just to fill a lunch break, but to give the middle of the day a little more importance.

When lunch becomes the occasion

Restaurant Week XXL gives diners the opportunity to experience some of South Africa’s leading restaurants through exclusive set menus during the campaign.

At The 11th Floor, the concept becomes an invitation to pause.

The restaurant’s two-course lunch brings together signature dishes, Mediterranean-inspired flavours and a Johannesburg skyline setting, all for R700 per person.

It is a reminder that an ordinary afternoon does not have to remain ordinary.

Sometimes, lunch can be the destination.
