adidas Originals Sport Brings Style to Training

New women’s collection blends iconic Originals design with performance technology, giving gym wear a distinctly adidas edge

Training gear is no longer just about performance. For many women, what they wear in the gym is also an expression of who they are.

That idea is at the heart of adidas Originals Sport, a new women’s training collection that brings the unmistakable style codes of adidas Originals together with performance technologies designed for movement, comfort and training.

Launched in South Africa on 6 August 2026, the collection marks the first Originals Sport range from adidas and takes inspiration from one of the brand’s most recognisable style icons: the Superstar tracksuit.

The result is a collection designed to move between the gym floor and everyday life without asking women to choose between personal style and performance.

Where Originals meets performance

The new collection brings together two sides of adidas that have long shaped the brand: sport performance and street style.

Drawing on decades of Originals design codes, Originals Sport introduces familiar elements such as Trefoil branding, feminine cut lines and expressive proportions, while adding performance technologies designed to support movement, comfort and confidence.

The collection also takes a more unexpected approach to colour, giving traditional training pieces a fresh visual identity.

According to Lisann Costello, VP Product Design Partnerships & Sports Marketing at adidas, the collection responds to the changing way women view performance and personal style.

“Today, women are redefining what performance looks like.”

Costello says Originals Sport was created to allow women to train without compromising between performance and self-expression.

A training wardrobe with personality

Rather than focusing on a single type of workout piece, Originals Sport offers a complete training wardrobe.

The collection includes bras, leggings, tops, layering pieces and an all-in-one onesie, giving women different options for building their training looks.

Among the key pieces are:

  • Bras: Available in low and medium support, featuring AdiSOFT for breathable comfort and LYCRA® ADAPTIV for a breathable and flexible fit.
  • Leggings: Available in 7/8 and full-length designs, made with LYCRA® ADAPTIV to support unrestricted movement.
  • Tops: The Superstar Bra Tee and Originals Sport Tank Padded feature CLIMACOOL technology designed to support ventilation and cooling.
  • Layering pieces: The Superstar Midlayer and Originals Sport Coverup offer lightweight and versatile options for layering.
  • Onesie: A bold all-in-one piece designed to make a statement and work as part of creative layering.

The collection is therefore built around versatility, allowing individual pieces to work together while retaining their own personality.

The Superstar gets a training makeover

One of the defining influences behind Originals Sport is the iconic Superstar tracksuit.

Rather than simply reproducing the classic look, adidas has reinterpreted its design language through a modern training lens.

The result combines familiar Originals details with technical materials and performance-focused construction.

It is a meeting point between nostalgia and contemporary sportswear — taking a design language associated with adidas Originals and giving it a new role inside the training space.

Three South African women front the campaign

For its South African launch, the campaign is fronted by Zama Marubelela, Lindiwe Dim and Thati Zulu.

The three women represent the intersection of culture, creativity and sport, reflecting the world adidas says Originals Sport was designed for.

Their involvement reinforces the collection’s central message: training and personal expression do not have to exist separately.

Colour meets performance

The South African collection launches in three colourways:

Night Indigo, Warm Vanilla and Black.

A Maroon colourway will follow, launching on 15 September 2026.

The collection is priced between R849 and R1,999, giving shoppers a range of options across the collection.

Available from 6 August

Originals Sport is available now in South Africa from 6 August 2026 through adidas South Africa and adidas retail stores.

With its first Originals Sport collection, adidas is making a clear statement about where training apparel can go next.

Performance still matters. Comfort still matters. But personal style belongs in the conversation too.

And with Originals Sport, adidas is bringing one of its most recognisable visual identities into that conversation — from the street to the gym floor and everywhere in between.
