Cinergy Mobile Power Powers a Cleaner Future for South Africa’s Film and Events Industry

In an industry where every second of silence matters and every watt of power shapes production quality, a quiet revolution has begun. On 18 March 2026 in Cape Town, Cinergy Mobile Power officially launched a new generation of smart, diesel-free mobile energy solutions—redefining how South Africa’s film, television, and live events sectors power their productions.

This isn’t just innovation. It’s disruption.

A New Era Beyond Diesel

For decades, diesel generators have been the backbone of temporary power across film sets and live events. They’ve been loud, costly, and environmentally taxing—but necessary. Until now.

Cinergy’s modular solar-hybrid and battery-powered systems offer a compelling alternative: silent, zero-emissions energy at the point of use, combined with real-time monitoring and actionable data insights. Designed to integrate seamlessly into existing production workflows, these systems require no overhaul of operations—just smarter power.

“Energy has become a strategic production variable,” explains Abe Cambridge, Co-Founder of Cinergy Mobile Power. “From sound quality to scheduling, from budgets to crew well-being—power affects everything. Cinergy delivers a practical replacement for diesel that meets modern production demands with greater efficiency and lower impact.”

Powering an Industry Under Pressure

South Africa’s film industry is a global player, contributing significantly to the economy. In 2024 alone, foreign film productions injected approximately R2.52 billion into the country, with each rand spent generating an additional R2.50 in economic activity.

Yet the sector faces mounting challenges: rising diesel costs, stricter environmental regulations, and growing expectations from international studios to meet sustainability targets.

Power provision alone accounts for 10–15% of production costs—making energy not just an operational necessity, but a financial and strategic priority.

Cinergy’s solutions arrive at a critical moment, offering:

  • Silent operation for sound-sensitive environments

  • Zero emissions at point of use

  • Remote monitoring for real-time optimisation

  • Rapid deployment across multiple locations

  • No refuelling requirements

  • Comparable or lower total costs than diesel

Proven Where It Matters Most

This isn’t theory—it’s already working in the field.

Cinergy recently powered a full-scale ITV Studios reality television production in Mpumalanga, delivering uninterrupted energy for lighting, cameras, and air conditioning over an entire week—without fuel.

“Productions are looking for solutions that reduce emissions without compromising reliability,” says Phil Holdgate. “Cinergy proved that clean power is not just a sustainability goal—it’s a practical, cost-effective reality.”

Beyond television, Cinergy demonstrated its capabilities at AfrikaBurn 2025 in the Tankwa Karoo. Over nearly six weeks—including build-up and breakdown—the company powered operations in one of the world’s most remote festival environments using solar-hybrid and battery systems, significantly reducing noise, fuel logistics, and emissions.

Backed by Innovation and Investment

Cinergy’s rapid growth is supported by Holocene Ventures, which has invested approximately R8 million into the company.

“Diesel generators are a major, often overlooked emissions source,” says Joshua Romisher. “Cinergy replaces them with solutions that are cleaner, quieter, and more cost-effective—exactly the kind of climate innovation we look for.”

The company also partners with Freedom Won, leveraging locally manufactured, high-performance battery systems to deliver scalable, reliable energy solutions.

“We’re proud to see South African engineering driving this shift,” adds Antony English. “It proves that large-scale alternatives to diesel are not only possible—but already here.”

Beyond Film: A Broader Energy Future

While film and live events are Cinergy’s primary focus, the implications stretch far wider. These mobile power systems are equally suited to:

  • Agriculture

  • Disaster relief operations

  • Remote construction

  • Broadcast infrastructure

In every case, they replace diesel dependency with cleaner, smarter, and more efficient energy.

The Bigger Picture

Cinergy Mobile Power isn’t just launching a product—it’s signalling a shift in how industries think about energy.

In a world where sustainability is no longer optional and efficiency is everything, the question is no longer whether industries will move beyond diesel—but how quickly.

And in South Africa, that future has already arrived.
