A decade ago, social media creators were often viewed as internet personalities operating on the fringes of traditional media. Today, they are shaping consumer decisions, driving cultural conversations, launching careers, influencing industries and building businesses that reach millions.
As South Africa’s creator economy continues to grow in influence, the Content Creator Awards is expanding alongside it.
Now entering its fourth edition, the awards have announced a strategic partnership with Cars.co.za and the introduction of three new categories that reflect the evolving ways creators are connecting with audiences across the country.
The move highlights a broader reality: content creators are no longer simply part of the media landscape — they are helping define it.
Celebrating the Architects of Modern Influence
The Content Creator Awards has established itself as a platform dedicated to recognising the creators, brands and agencies producing content that captures attention, drives engagement and influences behaviour across South Africa’s digital ecosystem.
According to founder Manuela Dias de Deus, the awards have always aimed to recognise creators as far more than influencers.
“The Content Creator Awards continues to champion creators not simply as influencers, but as entrepreneurs, entertainers, storytellers and cultural drivers who are shaping the future of media in South Africa,” she says.
That vision has become increasingly relevant as digital platforms continue to reshape how South Africans discover information, consume entertainment and engage with brands.
Whether through short-form videos, podcasts, livestreams, music content or niche online communities, creators have become trusted voices in an increasingly crowded digital environment.
Cars.co.za Drives into the Creator Economy
One of the most significant developments for 2026 is the partnership between the Content Creator Awards and Cars.co.za, which joins as the official Automotive Category Partner.
The collaboration reflects a dramatic shift within the motoring sector itself.
For decades, automotive discussions were largely dominated by traditional media outlets and specialist publications. Today, many consumers are turning to digital creators for authentic perspectives on vehicle ownership, road trips, purchasing decisions, family mobility and automotive lifestyle content.
From first-car experiences and ownership reviews to off-road adventures and aspirational dream vehicle content, creators are increasingly influencing how South Africans engage with motoring culture.
Recognising this evolution, the newly supported Automotive Content Award will celebrate creators making meaningful contributions to automotive storytelling and consumer education.
Nicole Capper Austin, Chief Marketing Officer at Cars.co.za, believes creators are helping make automotive content more relatable and accessible.
“Our goal is to produce content that is useful, locally relevant and genuinely helps South Africans navigate the realities of mobility and car ownership with greater confidence,” she says.
“Through the Cars.co.za Automotive Content Award, we’re excited to recognise creators who are contributing meaningfully to that conversation.”
The winner of the Automotive Content Award will receive a R10,000 cash prize sponsored by Cars.co.za.
Three New Categories Reflect a Changing Digital Landscape
As online audiences diversify and content formats evolve, the Content Creator Awards has introduced three additional categories designed to recognise emerging trends and growing communities.
“Online platforms have become some of the most powerful storytelling spaces in South Africa,” says Dias de Deus.
“These new categories reflect the incredible diversity of creativity we’re seeing across the creator economy, from comedy and music to niche communities and lifestyle storytelling. We want the awards to grow alongside the industry and continue creating meaningful opportunities for creators to be recognised, discovered and celebrated.”
Sound of Tomorrow Award
Music discovery has undergone a dramatic transformation in recent years, with social platforms increasingly serving as launchpads for emerging artists.
The Sound of Tomorrow Award recognises musicians and music creators who are successfully using digital platforms to grow audiences, build communities and establish themselves as exciting new voices within the South African music industry.
As social media continues to influence music consumption, the category celebrates creators who are leveraging content to accelerate their careers and connect with fans in innovative ways.
Best Comedy Content Creator Award
Humour remains one of the most powerful engagement tools online, and South African creators have embraced it with remarkable success.
From viral skits and parody content to memorable characters, satire and everyday observations, comedy creators continue to attract millions of views across digital platforms.
The Best Comedy Content Creator Award will honour creators who consistently use humour to entertain audiences while building strong and engaged communities.
Podcast of the Year Award
Podcasting has evolved into one of the fastest-growing content formats globally, and South Africa is no exception.
The Podcast of the Year Award recognises creators producing compelling audio content that informs, entertains and inspires listeners.
Whether focused on business, culture, storytelling, interviews, current affairs or comedy, the category celebrates podcasts that have built loyal audiences through creativity, consistency and meaningful conversations.
Supporting a Responsible Creator Industry
Beyond recognition and celebration, the Content Creator Awards continues to position itself as a platform supporting professionalism within the creator economy.
The awards remain aligned with the South African Content Creator Charter and promote responsible digital publishing standards consistent with the principles of the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) and the Advertising Regulatory Board (ARB).
As brands increasingly invest in creator partnerships and audiences continue placing trust in digital personalities, responsible content creation is becoming a critical part of industry growth.
Looking Ahead to the 2026 Awards
With entries now open, the Content Creator Awards 2026 is expected to showcase the depth, creativity and entrepreneurial spirit driving South Africa’s digital economy.
Key dates include:
- Entries Open: 14 May 2026
- Entries Close: 28 June 2026
- Workshops and Industry Sessions: July 2026

As the creator economy continues to redefine how stories are told, products are discovered and communities are built, the Content Creator Awards is evolving to ensure the people driving that transformation receive the recognition they deserve.
More than an awards programme, it has become a reflection of how influence, creativity and entrepreneurship are reshaping modern media in South Africa.
