Cotlands Launches Toys2Rent Project to Ignite Child Development through Sustainable Play-Based Learning

Cotlands, a renowned champion of early childhood development, is thrilled to unveil the Toys2Rent Project, a subscription-based educational toy rental service aimed at fostering early learning, environmental responsibility, and family connections. This innovative initiative, an extension of Cotlands’ existing efforts in play-based early learning, brings a unique and eco-conscious approach to empowering parents and caregivers, helping them nurture the potential in every child through play.

The Toys2Rent Project invites parents and caregivers to access curated toy boxes filled with high-quality, age-appropriate educational toys and play guides. Each toy box encourages holistic skill development, blending fun with a focus on crucial skills such as social-emotional awareness, critical thinking, and problem-solving. By offering children a variety of toys tailored for continuous learning, Toys2Rent enables parents to inspire learning through play while reducing the need to purchase and store toys.

Aligned with sustainability principles, the Toys2Rent Project has been designed with the environment in mind. Re-using toys across multiple households conserves resources and aligns with circular economy values. Carbon footprints are minimized further through thoughtful delivery practices, including reusing packaging for returns and planning courier schedules to reduce emissions. This approach enables children and families to experience the joys of discovery and learning while promoting environmental awareness, ultimately setting a new standard for sustainable toy consumption.

Inspired by Cotlands’ longstanding Toy Library Programmes, Toys2Rent was developed in response to feedback from parents who saw the transformative power of play-based learning in their children. The initiative, guided by a strong belief in the value of early childhood play, is designed as a social enterprise that sustains Cotlands’ mission of nurturing children’s growth. Each subscription to Toys2Rent directly supports Cotlands’ non-profit work, contributing to a brighter future for South African children.

Through donor support and collaborative partnerships, Cotlands continues to expand access to early learning resources, fostering a more inclusive society where all children are given the opportunity to thrive. The programme aims to improve school readiness, providing young learners with skills essential for academic and life success, including creativity, emotional intelligence, and cognitive growth.

Parents and caregivers can join this impactful initiative in just four simple steps: subscribe, receive, play, and repeat. Each month, a fresh toy box is delivered, ready to be explored and enjoyed with the included play guides. After a play period, the toy box can be returned in exchange for a new one, eliminating clutter and offering continuous development opportunities for children.

For 88 years, Cotlands has been at the forefront of supporting children and their families, and as the organization nears its centennial milestone, the Toys2Rent Project marks yet another milestone in making early childhood development accessible, enjoyable, and eco-friendly.

For more information on the Cotlands Toys2Rent Project or to subscribe, please visit Cotlands Website HERE And HERE. Each box is rented at the price of R399 p/m. Options include a once-off, 1–3-month package, offering a free box for January 2025, and discounts of up to 20% off for longer-term packages.
