DRUMSTRUCK Zama Qambi & Tumelo Seleke

On the scenic slopes of Constantia Nek, with the Twelve Apostles stretching majestically into the horizon, one of South Africa’s greatest cultural success stories continues to beat — loudly, proudly and joyfully.

Drumstruck, the internationally acclaimed interactive African drumming experience that has dazzled audiences from Broadway to Beijing, now calls Silvermist Organic Wine Estate its permanent home. What unfolds here is far more than a show. It is a living, breathing celebration of African musical heritage — one that invites every guest to participate, learn, eat, drink and connect.

Having performed for royalty, world leaders and global superstars including Shakira, Dolly Parton, Will.i.am and Linkin Park, Drumstruck has earned its reputation as one of South Africa’s most successful cultural exports. Today, it continues that legacy in Cape Town through a richly layered experience that blends interactive drumming, theatre, rare traditional instruments, wine tasting, marimba music and a generous South African braai.

An Authentic Gateway Into South African Culture

At the heart of Drumstruck’s power is authenticity. The experience is built on decades of deep research into traditional African music, backed by an extensive private collection of instruments, books and oral histories documenting Southern Africa’s musical evolution.

This scholarship led to the publication of a definitive book on African traditional music and the creation of an orchestra of indigenous instruments dedicated to preserving these sounds. That foundation is felt throughout the show, creating a connection that is genuine, educational and deeply moving.

From Audience to Ensemble

At Drumstruck, spectatorship disappears. Every guest receives a drum and becomes part of the performance. Guided by an energetic and humorous cast, strangers quickly transform into a unified ensemble, drumming together in rhythm.

No musical experience is required. The atmosphere is welcoming, pressure-free and joyful — proof that rhythm is a shared human language. The result is a rare sense of togetherness that lingers long after the final beat.

A Living Museum of African Sound

The Drumstruck theatre doubles as a living museum, housing the largest private collection of traditional Southern African instruments. Many are demonstrated live during the show, including the Ngoma Lungunda (God Drum), Royal Ghana Drums, Uhadi bow, Kudu horns, Pedi pipes, Venda nanga, log drums and historic mbiras.

Guests don’t just see history — they hear it, feel it and play it.

Learning Through Rhythm

Beyond entertainment, Drumstruck is deeply educational. Audiences learn how traditional practices shaped African music — from Bushman trance harmonies to Zulu and Tswana dance rhythms — and how daily activities such as stick-fighting, mielie-pounding and log-drumming influenced the creation of instruments like the marimba and akadinda.

A standout moment is learning a traditional Xhosa wedding song, a reminder that music has always been woven into the milestones of African life.

World-Class Performers, Intimate Setting

The cast includes some of South Africa’s most accomplished performers, among them Mpho Rasenyalo and Tumelo Seleke, artists who have performed on Broadway, opened the Beijing Olympics and shared stages with global icons.

What makes Drumstruck extraordinary is proximity. Guests sit just metres from performers who usually command massive stages, creating an intimacy that is both powerful and unforgettable.

A Braai That Feels Like Home

The experience extends beyond the stage with a generous South African braai, served for lunch or dinner. Guests enjoy flame-grilled chops, chicken, boerewors, pap and chakalaka, fresh salads, garlic bread and a sweet dessert, with vegetarian and halaal options available.

As the sun sets over the mountains, the meal becomes a celebration of hospitality, flavour and shared joy.

Marimba Music That Keeps the Energy Alive

During the braai, guests are treated to live marimba performances by one of South Africa’s leading ensembles, led by award-winning musicians Zama Qambi and Lungelwa Mdivasi.

Their repertoire includes beloved classics such as “Malaika,” “Summertime” and the “Click Song,” alongside traditional Zulu dance songs that often spark spontaneous singing and dancing.

Wine, Views and a Sense of Place

Set on Silvermist Organic Wine Estate, Drumstruck begins with guests gathering on sweeping lawns overlooking the Twelve Apostles. A tasting of four award-winning wines is paired with storytelling about the Constantia Valley, led by winemaker Gregory Brink Louw or his sommelier.

The result is an experience that feels luxurious yet grounded — deeply local and profoundly beautiful.

For Every Generation

Drumstruck is one of Cape Town’s rare cultural outings that truly works for everyone. Adults enjoy wine tasting while children and non-drinkers are treated to iced-tea tastings. Kids roam the lawns and interact with farm animals, while adults relax into the music and storytelling.

Everyone drums. Everyone belongs.

Exceptional Value, Lasting Impact

With show-only tickets starting from R380, Drumstruck offers access to an internationally recognised production at remarkable value. Guests can choose between the show alone, adding wine tasting, or completing the full wine-and-braai experience.

Visitors consistently describe Drumstruck as “life-changing,” “the highlight of our trip,” and “the most joyful experience in Cape Town.”

The message at its core is simple and powerful:
When you see Drumstruck, you fall in love with South Africa.
