With excitement building for 2023 and as a continuation of Mitsubishi’s ongoing product offensive, Mitsubishi have added the Eclipse Cross GLS Exceed to the range.

The Eclipse Cross GLS Exceed will take up the flagship position of the Eclipse Cross range and features several model year updates and cosmetic refinements. Mitsubishi understand that our customers have an ambition to explore and we are therefore continually striving to offer them vehicles that empower them to do so in the best way possible.

“We strive to always offer our customers products that are modern and speak to their needs and the refinements to the Eclipse Cross GLS Exceed aim to do exactly that,” says Jeffrey Allison, General Manager: Marketing at Mitsubishi Motors South Africa (MMSA).

Striking design

The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross continues to stand out from the crowded SUV segment thanks to a sporty, stylish design that culminates in sculpted character lines. The overall concept combines the sporty shape of a coupé with the space and practicality of an SUV. The unmistakable dynamic shield front face is flanked by twin oval headlamps that contribute to the high-tech image.

At the rear a sculpted hexagonal design incorporates a single piece of glass, and the rear lamps feature a distinctive three-dimensional Y-shaped design. The exterior design integrates the latest model year updates which now include colour coded bumpers and heated exterior door mirrors.

Under the bonnet

The Eclipse Cross is still offered with two engine variants. This includes the 2.0 litre MIVEC DOHC 16-valve four-cylinder engine that boasts 110kW at 6 000r/min and 198Nm at 4 200r/min.

The top of the range Eclipse Cross GLS Exceed is fitted with Mitsubishi’s latest 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine that makes use of turbocharging to offer 110kW at 5 500/min and 250Nm at 3 500r/min while at the same time being extremely fuel efficient.

A big contributor to this combination of performance and fuel efficiency is Mitsubishi’s eight-step INVECS-III CVT which incorporates a sports mode, delivers effortless acceleration and ensures that the engine is able to offer optimum performance at all times.

The latest in safety technology

Safety remains top notch and is centred around the RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) Body Construction, a total of seven airbags and Side-Impact Protection Bars.

Standard Equipment includes Isofix Child Seat anchors, ABS with EBD, AYC (Active Yaw Control), Brake Assist System, Hill Start Assist System, Active Stability and Traction Control.

Convenience features that also contribute to overall passenger safety include an Electric Parking Brake, Electronic Power Steering, Anti-theft Protection Device, Keyless Operating System, Rear View Camera. As of 2023, Blind Spot warning has also been added.

Mitsubishi Motors Intuitive Technology (MiTEC) is an integrated system of innovative technology designed to guide, protect, alert, connect and entertain and includes the Head Up Display which offers critical information in the driver’s field of view.

As part of MiTEC, the Eclipse Cross GLS Exceed now also features Mitsubishi’s new Ultrasonic Misacceleration Mitigation System. This intuitive technology reduces the chance and severity of hitting obstacles 4 metres in front or behind should a driver mistakenly press the accelerator when stationary or when travelling at speeds below 10km/h.

The GLS Exceed model also gains a panoramic tilt and slide sunroof as standard fitment, which comes standard with a UV protective coating, LED illumination with brightness settings as well as an electrically operated cover which can be opened and closed via the touch of a button.

“We believe that the Eclipse Cross continues to offer a great combination of a sleek, sporty design combined with SUV capabilities and the latest round of refinements go a long way in cementing its position as a vehicle that perfectly embodies what the Mitsubishi brand represents,” says Allison.
