On a night where faith, culture, and fashion intertwined, Seditsi Collection unveiled its inaugural menswear line, Merapelo ya Bashimane ba Kalahari Desert (Prayers of the Boys of the Kalahari Desert), at Fashion Meets Gospel 2025. The moment was more than a runway showcase — it was a cultural statement, an artistic prayer, and a celebration of African identity reimagined through fashion.
Seditsi Collection, renowned for its African luxury garments infused with spirituality and storytelling, presented a Spring/Summer 2025 capsule collection unlike any other. Rooted in a palette of brown, cream, and green, the designs symbolised earth, purity, and growth — grounding the collection in the wisdom of Africa’s deserts and the resilience of its people.
A Collection Born of Love and Identity
The collection’s genesis began not in a studio, but at a wedding. When two close friends of the brand asked Seditsi to create attire for their union, the creative team designed a bespoke print — bold yet tender, symbolic of black men reclaiming identity, love, and pride in spaces that once silenced them.
That moment of intimacy blossomed into a vision: a capsule menswear collection celebrating the transformation of dreams into reality, especially for young black men who grew up in environments where tradition often challenged individuality.
“This line reflects not only a fashion statement but a prayer for every black boy told he was ‘too much’ or ‘not enough,’” said Lesedi Baakwalanya, Head Designer. “Merapelo ya Bashimane is about grounding masculinity in resilience, spirituality, and authenticity.”
Beyond Fashion: A Cultural Checkpoint
At Fashion Meets Gospel 2025, the showcase drew gasps and applause from an audience of fashion insiders, celebrities, and cultural tastemakers. The menswear debut was hailed as a watershed moment for African luxury, proving that men’s fashion could be both sophisticated and unapologetically African.
The bold prints — some featuring motifs of desert huts and spiritual symbols — met contemporary tailoring, producing jackets, shirts, and trousers that felt timeless yet globally relevant.
Fashion Force Africa and local media outlets have already praised the collection as “a landmark in reimagining African masculinity through couture.” Seditsi’s showcase has also been picked up for Windhoek Fashion Week (November 2025), cementing its place on the continental stage ahead of South African Fashion Week 2026.
The Designers Speak
For Seditsi’s Creative Director, Romley Lishiba, the journey into menswear is both challenge and opportunity:
“We had to strike a balance between cultural authenticity and global appeal. Menswear often demands minimalism and utility, but we refused to dilute African luxury. Instead, we elevated it — with tailoring that speaks to heritage and a narrative that honours identity,” Lishiba said.
The result is not only clothing but cultural armour: garments that allow men to embody confidence, spirituality, and pride.
A Global Vision for African Luxury
Seditsi Collection has long been recognised as a leader in African luxury fashion, but the menswear debut signals a new frontier.
“We don’t just want to be seen as an African brand,” said Baakwalanya. “We want to lead global conversations about what luxury means. For us, luxury is storytelling, sustainability, and spirituality. It’s about heritage stitched into every seam.”
With upcoming showcases, Seditsi Collection aims to expand its reach internationally while continuing to empower African men and women to embrace cultural pride through couture.
