South Africa, September 2025 – Nespresso has unveiled one of its most exciting collaborations yet: Samra Origins, a limited-edition African coffee collection created in partnership with global superstar Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye. This bold new range not only redefines the coffee experience but also celebrates African heritage in a way that resonates deeply with a new generation of coffee lovers and culture enthusiasts.
As the world’s most-streamed artist on Spotify, The Weeknd is more than a musician – he’s a cultural icon who shapes creativity, fashion, and lifestyle trends worldwide. Through Samra Origins, Nespresso blends its coffee expertise with The Weeknd’s artistry, creating a collection that honours rituals of coffee while connecting with Gen Z and Millennials through shared values of heritage, creativity, and self-expression.
A Tribute to Family and Roots
The name Samra Origins pays tribute to The Weeknd’s Ethiopian mother, Samra, whose love and support deeply influenced his journey and artistry. “Coffee runs deep in my family culture, it’s about gathering, sharing, reflecting. That’s what Samra Origins and Nespresso mean to me – sharing a love of that tradition and making it accessible to many coffee lovers is truly incredible,” says The Weeknd.
Coffee Inspired by Africa’s Legacy
The limited-edition coffee is a single-origin 100% Arabica sourced from the Mount Kilimanjaro region in Tanzania. Known for its delicate balance, Samra Origins blends acidity and fruity notes with dry cereal undertones, offering a truly elevated coffee experience.
Launching during Heritage Month in South Africa, the collection connects coffee drinkers to the continent’s rich legacy, positioning African heritage not just as an origin story but as a source of pride and cultural identity.
Exclusive Launch in South Africa
South African coffee lovers will be the first to enjoy Samra Origins this September through the Nespresso Original system, with Vertuo capsules arriving in November 2025. The collection also includes exclusive branded accessories like tumblers and travel mugs, featuring a modern design inspired by Ethiopian art.
Even the logo carries heritage forward, written in Amharic script, one of Ethiopia’s official languages that The Weeknd still fluently speaks.
Coffee Meets Culture
“Nespresso and Samra Origins is more than coffee – it’s an experience,” says Gabriel Nobre, CEO of Nespresso South Africa. “It brings people together, reflects the richness of Abel’s heritage, and celebrates bold creativity.”
Adding to this, Philipp Navratil, Global CEO of Nespresso, notes: “At Nespresso, we believe coffee and music have the power to transcend boundaries. This collaboration is a celebration of how coffee and creativity can enrich lives, and we’re proud to welcome Abel and his fans into the Nespresso family.”
With Samra Origins, Nespresso not only honours African coffee traditions but also forges a bridge between heritage and modern artistry – offering a coffee experience that’s as meaningful as it is unforgettable.
