South African comedy fans are in for a laughter-filled theatrical experience as celebrated comedian Alan Committie returns to the stage with his 28th brand-new solo show, AV-A-LAUGH-TA.

Running from 20 March to 12 April 2026 at Pieter Toerien’s Montecasino Theatre, the production promises a whirlwind of wit, absurd observations and high-energy physical comedy from one of the country’s most beloved comedic performers.

Written and performed by Committie and directed by Christopher Weare, the show brings audiences a fresh dose of laughter designed to chase away the blues.

Comedy for a World That Feels Slightly Out of Orbit

In AV-A-LAUGH-TA, Committie dives headfirst into the chaos and confusion of modern life.

If you’ve ever caught yourself shouting:

  • “Stop the world, I want to get off!”

  • “Nothing on earth makes sense anymore!”

  • Or wondering why people are “acting from Uranus”…

…then this show is designed exactly for you.

With his signature comedic flair, Committie invites audiences to forget blockbuster spectacles like Avatar and instead settle in for an evening of pure theatrical comedy where the only goal is simple:

Sit back, relax — and AVA-LAUGH-TA.

A Signature Style That Audiences Love

Fans of Alan Committie know exactly what to expect — and yet every show still manages to surprise.

AV-A-LAUGH-TA features the elements that have made Committie one of South Africa’s most recognisable comedic voices:

  • Sharp and playful wordplay

  • Rapid-fire jokes and observations

  • Madcap physical comedy

  • Satirical reflections on everyday life

The new show also casts a humorous eye on the events, oddities and absurdities shaping life from 2025 through to today.

Everyday Topics With Cosmic Comedy

In classic Committie fashion, the show explores a wide range of relatable — and occasionally bizarre — topics.

Audiences can expect hilarious takes on:

  • The endless frustrations of Home Affairs

  • The emotional extremes of weddings and funerals

  • Astrology readings and star-sign obsession

  • The curious dynamics of book clubs

  • Italian bus journeys

  • And the universal struggle of remembering passwords

And yes — because this is an Alan Committie production — there will also be a flipchart, complete with its own “interplanetary connections”.

Because sometimes comedy needs diagrams.

A Theatre Experience Built for Big Laughs

While the show may joke about outer space, one thing is certain: the laughter will be loud and very much heard inside the theatre.

After all, while “in space nobody can hear you scream with laughter,” audiences are absolutely encouraged to guffaw as loudly as possible during the performance.

With decades of stage experience and an unmistakable comedic style, Committie continues to prove why he remains one of South Africa’s most enduring and entertaining stand-up performers.
