As South Africa embraces the excitement and global energy of football season, Mall of Africa is giving families a new reason to lace up their sneakers and head indoors this winter.
This July, the country’s largest shopping mall is transforming part of its Food Court into a football-inspired playground where children, teenagers and even competitive parents can put their skills to the test in an action-packed experience designed to celebrate the beautiful game.
Dubbed The Goal Zone: Winter’s Ultimate Playoff, the immersive activation will run from 3 to 13 July 2026, bringing eleven days of football-themed fun, family competition and exciting prizes to holidaymakers looking for something different during the winter school break.
Turning Football Fever into Family Fun
Few sporting events unite people quite like football.
From school playgrounds and township fields to packed stadiums and living rooms across the country, the sport continues to inspire passion, dreams and unforgettable memories.
Mall of Africa is tapping into that excitement with an interactive experience that captures the spirit of football while encouraging children to stay active, social and engaged during the holidays.
Situated in the Food Court, The Goal Zone will operate daily from 10:00 to 20:00, offering participants the chance to test their skills across seven football-themed challenges designed to combine competition, coordination and plenty of laughs.
At just R50 per participant, visitors can enjoy a high-energy sporting experience without ever stepping onto an outdoor pitch.
Seven Challenges, Endless Bragging Rights
The Goal Zone isn’t about watching football — it’s about becoming part of the action.
Participants will move through a series of exciting activities that challenge everything from accuracy and power to agility and ball control.
Among the attractions is Speed Kick, where players can discover just how much power they can generate behind a football.
For those who fancy themselves as future strikers, Beat the Keeper offers the opportunity to test precision and composure under pressure.
The Reflex Wall focuses on reaction speed and coordination, while Through the Hoops rewards those with sharp aim and technical accuracy.
Visitors looking for something a little different can tackle Footgolf, blending football skills with golf-inspired targets.
Families can also enjoy the hilarious challenge of Sit Down Soccer, where laughter often proves more important than victory.
Meanwhile, the classic Keepie Uppies challenge gives aspiring football stars the chance to demonstrate their ball-control skills and compete for bragging rights.
Together, the activities create an indoor astroturf-style arena atmosphere where participants can celebrate football while creating memorable moments with friends and family.
Big Prizes Up for Grabs
The competition doesn’t stop on the playing field.
Visitors taking part in The Goal Zone will have the opportunity to win a variety of exciting prizes throughout the activation.
Among the headline rewards are:
- One of five official Bafana Bafana jerseys
- Five Studio 88 vouchers worth R1,000 each
- Spot prizes from EL&N, Honor, Lego, McDonald’s, New Balance, Spur, Totalsports and Toy Kingdom
Adding an extra sweet touch to the experience, the first 100 participants through The Goal Zone will also have the opportunity to customise a Krispy Kreme Original Glazed doughnut.
The combination of football, prizes and family entertainment ensures every visit comes with the possibility of a memorable reward.
The Perfect Winter Holiday Activity
As temperatures drop across Gauteng, many parents find themselves searching for indoor activities that can keep children entertained while encouraging movement and interaction.
The Goal Zone delivers exactly that.
Located in the heart of Mall of Africa, families can easily combine the experience with shopping, dining or a full day out at one of South Africa’s premier retail destinations.
Whether it’s siblings competing for family glory, friends challenging each other to top the leaderboard or parents attempting to prove they’ve still got a winning touch, the activation has been designed to bring generations together through the universal language of sport.
More Than Just a Game
Beyond the football-themed challenges and exciting prizes, The Goal Zone offers something many families value most during school holidays: shared experiences.
It creates a space where children can stay active, where parents can join the fun and where families can make memories together away from screens and daily routines.
For eleven days this winter, football takes centre stage at Mall of Africa, transforming an ordinary shopping trip into an energetic celebration of skill, laughter and friendly competition.
The Goal Zone runs from 3 to 13 July 2026 in the Mall of Africa Food Court. Tickets are available onsite for R50 per participant.
Parental supervision is required for children younger than 12 years.
This school holiday, football isn’t just being watched — it’s being played, celebrated and shared.
