For Langa Mavuso, Therapy: The Other Side is now entering a new chapter.
On Friday, the award-winning singer-songwriter and performer, together with Stella Artois, brought the acclaimed album to life through an intimate, one-night-only curated experience at Kumalo Turpin Gallery, Nine Yards, Johannesburg.
The evening offered a first glimpse of how the album is being transformed for the stage.
And the music was only the beginning.
From an album to an experience
Inside the gallery, a 120-person audience experienced Mavuso’s music at close range.
A live orchestra gave familiar songs new scale and texture.
Mavuso also threaded personal storytelling through each reinterpretation, creating a deeper connection between the songs and the journey that shaped them.
Fashion and design became part of the visual language.
Thoughtful hospitality shaped the flow of the evening, while Stella Artois’ Perfect Serve added to the considered experience.
Together, these elements transformed an album born from grief, healing and identity into something audiences could see, hear and feel.
A defining year for Therapy
The latest chapter comes after a significant year for Mavuso.
He earned his first SAMA for Best Produced Album for Therapy.
The track Dangerous also secured a Metro FM Music Award nomination.
Then came his September single, I Choose You, leading into the forthcoming Therapy: The Other Side (Deluxe).
The momentum surrounding the body of work continues.
But the meaning of the music has also changed.
When the songs no longer belong to one person
Therapy: The Other Side began as an intensely personal exploration for Mavuso.
A year of critical recognition and audience connection has given those songs another life.
They have moved from being solely his story to becoming part of the stories of the people who have listened to them.
Mavuso says that shift has changed how he hears his own work.
“These songs mean something different to me now because they no longer belong only to me.”
He says people have lived with the songs, found themselves in them and given them new meaning.
For Mavuso, that has made the work worth more than it was when it belonged only to him.
Now, the next chapter is about discovering what Therapy can become.
“This next chapter is about taking everything Therapy has become and pushing it somewhere we haven’t taken it before,” said Mavuso.
Stella Artois creates space for the next expression
Stella Artois’ role was expressed through the experience itself.
The brand created an environment designed to give the work space to breathe, pairing thoughtful hospitality with the ritual of its Perfect Serve.
The music remained at the centre.
For Vaughan Croeser, VP of Marketing at South African Breweries, the collaboration forms part of Stella Artois’ Worth More philosophy.
“Worth More is about giving exceptional cultural ideas the space and support to become something greater.”
Croeser says Stella Artois has watched Therapy evolve from an intimate artistic statement into an award-winning body of work.
The next step is creating space for its new expression.
The stage is calling
What began as an album is becoming a distinct live experience.
Its shape is being influenced by everything the music has come to mean to Mavuso and to the people who have travelled with it.
The curated experience at Kumalo Turpin Gallery was not the final destination.
It was the beginning.
The first glimpse of a wider journey has now been revealed.
And that journey will take Therapy: The Other Side beyond the intimate gallery setting and towards audiences beyond the room.
The other side is only the beginning
There is something powerful about hearing music after the story that created it has changed.
For Mavuso, Therapy: The Other Side now carries a different weight.
The songs have travelled.
Audiences have made them their own.
Recognition has followed.
And now, the music is ready to move again.
From grief to healing.
From identity to connection.
From the album to the stage.
The next chapter of Therapy: The Other Side now belongs to the stage.
