Flying into the Mother City has started to feel like coming home. Maybe it’s being closer to the water and the mountain, or perhaps it’s an indication of the next chapter in my book, but one thing is for sure, I’m not a tourist anymore, though I will always prefer the comforts of a hotel over anything else.
I recently checked into City Lodge Hotel V&A Waterfront, and it has made me realise how important a location and peace of mind really are. Besides being close to the V&A Waterfront, or being on the doorstop of the Foreshore, just being on the banks of the canal connects you to the city in an entirely different way, and here are a few other things I took away from my experience:
- Its positioning is ideal for the avid adventurer, and even if you’d like to take it at your own pace, you’re steps away from the Red Bus Hop On-Hop Off tours and City Sightseeing Canal Cruise, the thrill of Stand-up Paddle Boarding, as well as the peaceful relaxation of Battery Park, or the freedom to take up space on one of the benches on the canal. Not to mention it has the most central position, making access to the beach or the airport a breeze.
- The renovations currently underway aren’t noticeable to guests at all, as they work hard to upgrade the property, but when you walk into the room, you’re greeted with warm muted tones carefully crafted to blend utility and comfort. From ideally placed shelving, ample light and good placement of their mirrors, a large desk area and more, you’ll appreciate the comforts of home. Sounds cheesy till you experience a disastrous stay at a 4-Star boutique hotel, and realise that the value proposition of ANY of the City Lodge Hotels properties will always outweigh the cost, which is also very competitive for the location.
- At this property, I can assure you that you’ll always be catered to. As travellers from various backgrounds, with different dietary needs and tastes, descend onto our shores, the seasoned team has mastered the art of true hospitality, and I found that my needs were pre-empted, never having to wait too long for a warm vegan breakfast, and always being surprised by the variety that the team would offer. It’s safe to say breakfast will be the saving grace to any long day, and if you happen to sleep in late, the proximity to the CBD will allow you to venture on a culinary journey that highlights the diversity of the city and its people.
- You’ll always find what you need at or close to the property, from a dedicated working area on the main floor, the gym, plunge pool, or just the convenience of the V&A Waterfront at your doorstep, the hotel takes the stress out of having to worry about too much while you’re running around for work, or navigating between recreational activities.
As creatures of habit, we crave the thrill of adventure while still having the comforts of home. So whether your thrill is shopping at the V&A, hiking Lions Head, or you’re planning your next staycation to just unwind from an already taxing year, there is no higher recommendation than the City Lodge Hotel V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.
