Pro-Aging Power: Skin Functional’s 10% EGF + 4% PDRN

The anti-ageing narrative is evolving. Today’s consumer isn’t looking to “reverse time”, they’re looking to optimise skin health, resilience and regeneration. Welcome to the era of pro-ageing skincare: science-led formulations designed to support the skin’s natural repair processes rather than simply mask visible signs of ageing.

“Globally, the regenerative skincare category is accelerating. Growth in the dermocosmetic and clinical skincare sectors continues to outpace traditional beauty, with consumers increasingly searching for terms such as “growth factors,” “skin regeneration,” and “PDRN.” The demand signals a clear shift toward biologically intelligent formulations that work with the skin, not against it,” explained Shannon Dougall, Founder of SKIN functional.

“Responding to this demand, we are introducing our most advanced launch to date: 10% EGF + 4% PDRN, available from 24 March 2026,” added Shannon.

From the mid-20s onward, collagen production declines by approximately 1% per year. By the time women reach their 40s and 50s, cumulative collagen loss contributes to thinning skin, reduced elasticity, fine lines and slower wound repair.

Environmental stressors compound the issue. In South Africa, high UV exposure remains one of the leading contributors to premature ageing. Add pollution, stress and lifestyle factors, and the skin’s natural regenerative capacity becomes compromised earlier than expected.

“Consumers are becoming more informed about the biology of ageing,” said Shannon. “They understand that hydration alone won’t restore firmness or elasticity. They’re looking for ingredients that stimulate cellular renewal and support structural integrity. This is where growth factors and regenerative molecules enter the conversation.”

This new serum combines two high-performance regenerative actives in clinically meaningful concentrations. 10% EGF (Epidermal Growth Factor). EGF is a protein that signals skin cells to regenerate and repair. It supports:

·       Collagen and elastin production

·       Improved skin density and firmness

·       Faster barrier recovery

·       Smoother texture and reduced fine lines

Research shows that growth factors can significantly enhance wound healing and stimulate fibroblast activity, the cells responsible for producing collagen. In cosmetic dermatology, growth factors have become a cornerstone of post-procedure recovery and anti-ageing protocols.

By incorporating EGF at 10%, it is able to deliver a potent signal to ageing skin: rebuild, restore and strengthen.

4% PDRN (Polydeoxyribonucleotide). PDRN, derived from DNA fragments, is widely used in regenerative aesthetic medicine. It works by stimulating tissue repair, improving microcirculation and reducing inflammation.

Clinical studies on PDRN demonstrate improvements in:

·       Skin elasticity

·       Hydration levels

·       Dermal thickness

·       Overall skin vitality

In professional treatments, PDRN is often associated with injectable “skin boosters.” SKIN functional brings this regenerative technology into a topical, accessible format, bridging clinical innovation with at-home care.

South African beauty consumers particularly in the LSM 8–10 bracket are increasingly seeking evidence-based skincare that aligns with longevity and wellness trends. The language is shifting from “anti-ageing” to “pro-ageing”: supporting the skin to function optimally at every stage of life.

Rather than freezing expression or chasing unrealistic ideals, regenerative skincare focuses on:

·       Improving skin quality

·       Enhancing firmness and bounce

·       Supporting natural repair

·       Maintaining long-term structural health

The 10% EGF + 4% PDRN serum is positioned as a treatment step within an advanced routine ideal for those experiencing early collagen decline, post-inflammatory damage, environmental stress or post-procedure recovery.

This launch speaks directly to:

·       Consumers in their late 20s to 50s seeking preventative and corrective care

·       Post-procedure patients wanting to optimise recovery

·       Individuals experiencing loss of firmness and elasticity

·       Skincare-literate users familiar with actives and clinical formulations

As the South African skincare market matures, brands that merge science, accessibility and transparency are defining the future of beauty. Regenerative skincare represents the next frontier, moving beyond surface-level solutions toward cellular optimisation.

Launching 24 March 2026, the SKIN functional 10% EGF + 4% PDRN serum signals a bold step into advanced regenerative care, empowering consumers to invest in skin longevity, not just short-term correction.
