Dark spots, discoloured skin, and uneven skin tone are all concerns so many of us have about our skin’. Skin pigmentation is one of the most common concerns experienced by South Africans mainly due to our climate and the variety of genetics. Treating pigmented skin can be a long and difficult process but leading global skincare brand ISDIN has announced its brand new advanced spot-correcting gel serum that is made to correct skin pigmentation.

Karlo Mitchell, the Brand Manager of ISDIN in South Africa explained that: “The most effective way to manage hyper-pigmentation is to combine avoidance of known triggers with active treatment. This is wearing SPF, limiting your time in direct sunlight and using the correct treatments for your skin. Should you know what triggers your hyper-pigmentation, you should avoid this at all costs.”

Skin pigmentation refers to how much melanin the body generates which in turn determines the colour of the skin. The two main types of melanin, eumelanin, and pheomelanin, are produced by melanocytes in the epidermal layer of the skin. Factors such as genetics, hormone changes during puberty or pregnancy, injury to the skin (for example, acne, cuts or burns), which is sometimes called post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and some medications, such as oral contraceptives (birth control pills) and drugs that cause sensitivity to light are all causes of pigmentation on the skin.”
