Why The Addams Family Musical has such appeal

Excitement and anticipation are building for the worldwide cult hit, The Addams Family Musical, which starts its first run in South Africa at the Homecoming Centre (formerly the Fugard Theatre) in Cape Town from 14 December 2024, presented by Mother City Theatre Productions.

The Addams Family Musical celebrates love, family, and the relationships that define us while highlighting a few universal truths around how the various characters yearn to be seen, heard, and understood. The heart of the story lies in the authentic and vulnerable pursuit of self-discovery, acceptance, and the enduring strength of family.

A heart-warming story about acceptance, tradition and identity, this musical comedy explores a light-hearted journey of self-discovery against the backdrop of familial bonds and cultural norms. Through the collision of the famously eccentric and kooky Addams clan and the seemingly conventional Beineke families, the musical delves into questions about who we really are behind the facade of traditions and daily routines. It requires the characters to look at their true selves and discover who they are without their accepted cultural identities.

This wonderful production illustrates how both families make sacrifices in the quest for a sense of belonging and acceptance. It’s fun, explosive and thoroughly entertaining with songs and music that will resonate with all audiences as it brings the whole story together.
