The arrival of spring has brought with it a fresh wave of anticipation as Cricket South Africa (CSA) officially launched the 2025/26 domestic cricket season in a vibrant, high‑energy event at the iconic Wanderers Club in Johannesburg.

With the first ball set to be bowled at the end of September, the launch signalled the start of what promises to be another thrilling summer of cricket — across both the men’s and women’s games — with every union determined to defend their titles or claim new silverware.

A Season Built on Tradition and Fierce Competition

CSA CEO Pholetsi Moseki underscored the importance of the domestic structure as the foundation of South African cricket:

“Our domestic structures remain the backbone of professional cricket in South Africa, and we’re excited to see how the various tournaments unfold over the upcoming season. Good luck to all the players, coaches, and unions involved.”

The season will once again feature intense battles across formats, with the men’s and women’s competitions offering fans a packed calendar of red‑ball, white‑ball, and T20 action.

Launch Day Highlights

The season launch was more than just speeches — it was a celebration of cricket culture.

  • Competition Themes Unveiled:
    • CSA T20 Challenge — introducing a fan‑driven dance competition to bring energy to match days.
    • 1‑Day Cup — embracing the spirit of a traditional South African braai as its overarching theme.
  • Fan & Player Activations:
    • KFC Mini Cricket sessions.
    • A bowlathon challenge.
    • A range‑hitting contest between men’s and women’s professionals, giving fans a taste of the competitive fire ahead of the season.

Men’s Season: From Red Ball to White Heat

  • 4‑Day Domestic Series: Kicks off 25 September for both Division 1 and Division 2.
  • T20 Challenge: Begins late October, building momentum towards the Betway SA20 starting 26 December.
  • Festive Season Cricket: Select 4‑Day matches in December before the SA20 takes centre stage.
  • Season Finale: The 4‑Day Series wraps in February, followed by the 1‑Day Cup, culminating in the final on 29 March.

Women’s Season: Hollywoodbets Pro Series Returns

  • Opening Weekend:
    • Pro50 opener — 4 October, DP World Lions vs Hollywoodbets Dolphins at DP World Wanderers Stadium.
    • Pro20 clash — 5 October.
  • Momentum & Commitment: Building on a strong debut season, Hollywoodbets has extended its support for another two years, bringing fresh energy and visibility to the women’s game.
  • Season Break: Mid‑December to early February.

    • Pro20 Final — 13 March.
    • Pro50 Final — 15 March.

A Summer to Anticipate

CSA Executive of Domestic Cricket Edward Khoza summed up the mood:

“The various competitions will give fans plenty of opportunities to see the country’s best players and the Proteas of the future in action. The off‑season has been long but productive — now it’s time for the cricket to begin.”

With new themes, fan‑focused activations, and a calendar packed with high‑stakes matches, the 2025/26 domestic cricket season promises to deliver not just results, but unforgettable moments for players and supporters alike.
