Samsung Unveils Flex Titanium to Power the Next Generation of Galaxy Foldables

Samsung is taking another significant step in the evolution of foldable smartphones.

The technology giant has introduced Flex Titanium, a newly engineered display technology designed for its next generation of Galaxy foldable devices. Built on seven generations of foldable innovation, the new display structure combines advanced materials and refined engineering to improve durability while reducing crease visibility, delivering a more immersive viewing experience.

Announced on 20 July 2026, Flex Titanium represents Samsung’s latest advancement in foldable display development and will make its debut on the company’s next-generation Galaxy foldable smartphones, with more details set to be revealed at Galaxy Unpacked.

A New Approach to Foldable Displays

Samsung says Flex Titanium is the result of years of research into how foldable devices perform in everyday use.

Rather than focusing on a single component, the company redesigned the display structure by integrating two titanium-based elements—a titanium-alloy film and a titanium plate—that work together to balance strength, flexibility and slimness within the foldable display.

The result is a display engineered to withstand repeated folding while maintaining a thinner profile and reducing the visibility of the crease that naturally forms where the device folds.

“Samsung’s strength in the foldable category comes from connecting user needs with our technologies that deliver tangible benefits in everyday life,” said Sunghoon Moon, Executive Vice President and Senior Executive of the Mobile R&D Office – H/W at Samsung Electronics.

“For the next generation of Galaxy foldables, Samsung is building on years of expertise to bring display innovations into devices that enhance user experiences, anchored by exceptional viewing experiences.”

Built on Seven Generations of Innovation

Samsung has played a major role in the evolution of mobile displays, beginning with the widespread adoption of AMOLED technology in 2007 before helping pioneer flexible smartphone displays.

According to the company, years of customer feedback have shaped the development of its foldable devices. Users consistently wanted larger displays, improved durability and a less noticeable crease without sacrificing portability.

Meeting those expectations required Samsung to rethink how foldable displays are built, combining advancements in materials, structural engineering and display technology.

Flex Titanium is the latest outcome of that ongoing development.

Why Titanium?

Titanium was selected because it offers a unique combination of resilience and strength while remaining suitable for an ultra-thin foldable design.

The material has long been used in demanding environments, including satellite antennas and the wheels of Mars rovers, but integrating it into a foldable smartphone display presented a significant engineering challenge due to its natural stiffness.

Samsung overcame those challenges by incorporating titanium into two key structural components.

The titanium-alloy film, positioned beneath the OLED display panel, provides structural support from within the display. Samsung says it delivers 20 times greater mechanical stiffness than conventional polymer film while remaining exceptionally thin—measuring roughly one-third the thickness of an average human hair.

Supporting the display from underneath is a newly designed titanium plate, which improves structural stability while maintaining the flexibility needed for repeated folding. Advanced hole-processing technology removes air gaps between the display module and adhesive, creating stronger bonding and more consistent support when the device is fully unfolded.

Sharper Visuals with Greater Power Efficiency

The structural improvements are paired with a new high-resolution display architecture and next-generation organic display materials.

Samsung says the combination delivers more vivid visuals while simultaneously reducing power consumption, resulting in improved overall power efficiency for future Galaxy foldables.

According to the company, these advancements allow the display to maximise content immersion while maintaining a slim design and making the crease less visible.

“By introducing sophisticated micro-patterned holes to the folding section of the titanium plate, we have successfully secured flexibility with robust durability,” said Kyung-Jin Yoo, Executive Vice President and Head of the Mobile Display Product Development Team at Samsung Display.

“Combining high-resolution display architecture with new organic materials that maximises power efficiency, we will further strengthen the competitiveness of next-generation Galaxy foldable devices.”

Looking Ahead to Galaxy Unpacked

With Flex Titanium, Samsung continues to push the boundaries of foldable smartphone engineering by combining advanced materials with years of display expertise.

The new technology is expected to debut in Samsung’s next-generation Galaxy foldable devices, with additional details scheduled to be announced during the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event.

As foldable smartphones continue to evolve, Samsung’s latest innovation aims to further refine the viewing experience by balancing durability, flexibility and seamless design in a slimmer, more immersive display.
