There are speakers that play music. Then there are speakers designed to make you feel it.
Sony is taking the latter approach with the latest expansion of its ULT POWER SOUND series, unveiling three new bass-powered party speakers for South Africa: the ULT TOWER MAX, ULT TOWER 7 and ULT TOWER 5.
Unveiled on 2 September 2026, the new lineup is built around one clear idea: “Massive Bass. Ultimate Vibe.”
Whether the plan is a house party, DJ setup, karaoke session, dance floor or everyday listening, Sony says the new speakers are designed for music lovers who want to connect with every beat through deeper bass, higher sound pressure and expanded party features.
Three towers. Three ways to bring the bass.
At the top of the new range sits the ULT TOWER MAX.
Sony describes it as delivering the most powerful bass in the ULT POWER SOUND series yet. It combines deep bass and high sound pressure with DJ and karaoke capabilities, while still offering a portable design aimed at parties and larger gatherings.
The ULT TOWER 7 is designed to fill a space with deep bass and stage-worthy sound. Its portable design makes it easier to move between parties, DJ setups, karaoke sessions and everyday listening.
Then there is the ULT TOWER 5, which brings impressive bass, DJ input and karaoke features into a more compact portable design. It is positioned for smaller gatherings and people who want an easier on-the-go option.
Built to make bass the main event
Sony has redesigned the foundation of the ULT POWER SOUND experience around newly developed large circular woofers, large-capacity speaker cabinets and ULT DUCT.
Together, these elements are designed to deliver stronger low-frequency bass performance.
The result is a speaker range that looks as bold as it sounds. Sony’s new robust and versatile design aims to bring the energy of a live event into different spaces.
The numbers also show how the three models step up.
The ULT TOWER MAX features three woofers. Two face forward, while another faces the rear. They work with a high-powered amplifier delivering up to 2,150 watts of output.
The ULT TOWER 7 offers up to 420 watts, while the ULT TOWER 5 delivers up to 300 watts.
That gives consumers three distinct options within the same bass-focused family.
Tuned with hip-hop creators
Sony did not develop the new ULT TOWER lineup in isolation.
The speakers were refined through co-creation with acclaimed hip-hop sound creators, including Grammy-nominated producer Dot Da Genius, award-winning drummer, producer and musical director Daru Jones, record producer, songwriter and DJ Dready, and audio engineer and producer Dennis “ROC.am” Jones.
Their feedback helped Sony tune the speakers around deeper low frequencies, greater impact and clearer vocals.
It is a fitting creative partnership for a range built around bass, rhythm and the physical connection people have with music.
One button. Four different moods.
Every model comes with Sony’s signature ULT button.
This gives listeners access to four sound profiles: ULT1, ULT2, FLAT and LIVE.
ULT1 enhances deep bass for a rich, low-frequency sound. ULT2 takes the power further, delivering body-shaking bass and strong sound pressure.
For listeners who want music reproduced as intended, FLAT provides a true-to-source listening experience.
LIVE, meanwhile, aims to recreate the spacious feel of a live performance while retaining vocal clarity.
Listeners can also fine-tune their sound using Custom EQ through the Sony | Sound Connect app.
Sound that follows the party
The ULT TOWER MAX and ULT TOWER 7 take the experience further with 360° Party Sound.
The technology projects audio around the space, allowing listeners to enjoy powerful bass and clear vocals from virtually any position around the speakers.
On the ULT TOWER MAX, four tweeters, mid-range speakers and the rear woofer work together to create room-filling sound.
Sony has also introduced Enhanced Sound Field Optimization.
The system analyses speaker placement and surrounding noise levels before adjusting the overall sound balance across the full frequency range. It is not limited to bass. The aim is to maintain clear and balanced sound as the environment changes.
The speakers can also be positioned vertically or horizontally, adding flexibility to how they are used.
From DJ booth to karaoke stage
The new ULT TOWER lineup is built with more than casual listening in mind.
Connectivity includes XLR, RCA and USB-C®, supporting uses ranging from casual parties to professional DJ setups.
For larger events, compatible speakers can be connected in a stereo configuration to create wider sound coverage.
The party atmosphere can also change with the lighting.
BEAT synchronises high-energy lighting with the rhythm. WAVE creates dynamic ambient effects for social gatherings. MELLOW introduces slower lighting patterns for more relaxed listening.
For karaoke, users can connect Sony’s optional ULTMIC1 microphone for an optimised vocal experience.
Sony is also introducing Party Chain, which uses Auracast™ broadcast technology to connect multiple compatible Sony speakers and synchronise music and lighting.
Made to move
A party speaker is only useful if it can get where the party is happening.
Sony has therefore focused on portability across the new range.
The speakers feature carry handles designed for a more comfortable grip. The ULT TOWER MAX and ULT TOWER 7 also receive upgraded wheels with wider treads, making them easier to move across different surfaces.
The ULT TOWER 7 and ULT TOWER 5 feature an IPX4 rating when positioned vertically, making them suited to outdoor use.
Battery life is also built for longer sessions. Sony states that the ULT TOWER 7 offers up to 30 hours of battery life, while the ULT TOWER 5 offers up to 20 hours.
Sony takes the ULT sound to the dance floor
The new speakers are also arriving alongside a partnership that connects Sony with the global dance community.
Sony has reached an agreement with Red Bull to sponsor Red Bull Dance Your Style 2026.
Under the partnership, Sony will support events including the National Final USA in September 2026 and the World Final in Switzerland in October 2026 as an official wireless speaker partner.
Sony says the partnership will contribute to the growth and development of the dance community.
Bass with a lighter footprint
The new range also incorporates recycled plastic.
Approximately 35% of the total plastic used in the ULT TOWER MAX is recycled plastic, incorporated into multiple parts of the speaker body.
For both the ULT TOWER 7 and ULT TOWER 5, approximately 20% of the total plastic used is recycled plastic.
Sony says this reflects its efforts to reduce the environmental impact of its products.
South Africa gets the new ULT experience in October
The three new speakers are set to arrive in South Africa from October 2026.
The ULT TOWER MAX, ULT TOWER 7 and ULT TOWER 5 expand Sony’s ULT POWER SOUND family with three different approaches to the same mission: making bass more powerful, parties more immersive and music more physical.
From the biggest ULT TOWER MAX to the more compact ULT TOWER 5, Sony is betting that the future of party sound is not simply about hearing the music.
