Discovery Vitality is excited to announce that its popular Vitality Run Series is extending to Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape, and George and Plettenberg Bay in the Western Cape, with three new races this year.

The Vitality Run Series, introduced in 2017, aims to help people improve their health through physical activity and has, over the years, offered iconic running events across the Western Cape, Gauteng, and KwaZulu-Natal. The series is open to anyone, and Vitality members earn Vitality points for participating in races.

It is easy to enter the new races which will see participants enjoying the coastline and beautiful surroundings of the Garden Route and Eastern Cape. The new Vitality Run Series’ take place as follows:

  • George: 9 September for Madibaz George Forest Run with Discovery Vitality
  • Gqeberha: 21 October for Rafi’s BayRun with Discovery Vitality
  • Plettenberg Bay: 28 December for the Sabrina Love Summer Challenge with Discovery Vitality

Gqeberha and Plettenberg Bay race entries will open a month before each race. Click here to keep track.

Discovery Vitality has partnered with Madibaz Sport and 32Gi running clubs for the George and Gqeberha races. The on and off-road races promise astonishing views across the trails in George and Gqeberha. The third new race will wrap up the series for the year in Plettenberg Bay as part of the Sabrina Love Summer Challenge on 28 December 2023.

Celeste Williams, Discovery Vitality’s Head of Marketing and Sponsorships says the series has supported the running community by contributing to the sustainability of existing road running events, attracting over 55 000 people to take part in the series over the years.

“Discovery Vitality’s aim is to inspire a global movement in health, wellness, and exercise. To get South Africans moving more, we have continued to expand our annual Vitality Run Series, based on its success over the past five years. We want to motivate more people at all fitness levels to get active and get more people running. Earning Vitality points is a bonus for our members who take part,” says Williams.

As a behaviour-change programme, Discovery Vitality has been deliberate to support small, local and heritage running clubs. With the three new events, the Vitality Run Series now includes a total of 17 events, which are open to the public across the country.

“Our data at Discovery has shown that engaged Vitality members are more physically active, buy healthier food and live longer than those who are not engaged in activities that improve health. The Vitality Run Series provides an opportunity for people to be active in a fun and social setting, which helps achieve our goal of making people healthier,” Williams concluded.

Vitality members who run the Vitality Run Series get:

  • 800 Vitality points for 5 km
  • 1,100 Vitality points for 10 km
  • 2,000 Vitality points for 21 km
