After a seven-year break, Mediatech Africa is making its long-awaited return to Johannesburg, and the technology landscape awaiting visitors looks dramatically different from the one they left behind.

When the continent’s largest audiovisual, broadcast and entertainment technology exhibition last took place in 2019, hybrid work was still emerging, artificial intelligence was largely a futuristic concept for many businesses, and unified communications had yet to become a boardroom priority.

Fast forward to 2026, and technology is reshaping almost every aspect of modern life. It influences how people work, learn, communicate, create content and connect with audiences. From intelligent collaboration platforms and cloud-based production tools to immersive live experiences and AI-powered workflows, Mediatech Africa 2026 promises a front-row seat to the innovations driving the future.

Taking place from 30 June to 2 July 2026 at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit in Johannesburg, the exhibition will bring together hundreds of exhibitors, technology leaders, creators, broadcasters, production professionals and corporate decision-makers under one roof.

According to Simon Robinson, co-owner of Mediatech Africa, the industry has undergone a remarkable transformation since the event’s last edition.

“When Mediatech Africa Expo last took place in 2019, hybrid work was still a niche concept, AI had yet to enter mainstream business conversations, and unified communications was a relatively unfamiliar term for many organisations,” says Robinson.

“Now, we see technology reshaping how people work, learn, communicate and create content across all sectors. From cloud-based collaboration and AI-powered workflows to smart classrooms, digital signage networks and IP-based broadcast production, the media tech space is an exciting one.”

Here are the six major technology trends visitors can expect to experience at Mediatech Africa 2026.

Hybrid Work Continues to Transform Collaboration

The workplace has changed permanently.

As organisations embrace flexible working models, demand for smarter collaboration technology continues to grow. Businesses are investing in advanced conferencing systems, interactive displays, collaboration platforms and automated meeting rooms that connect teams regardless of location.

Visitors will be able to explore solutions from global brands including Logitech for Business, MAXHUB, Barco, Crestron and Q-SYS, all showcasing technologies designed to create seamless and connected work environments.

AV and IT Are Becoming One

The traditional separation between audiovisual technology and information technology is rapidly disappearing.

Modern collaboration systems, digital signage networks, audio platforms and control systems increasingly operate across enterprise networks. The growing adoption of AV-over-IP technology means audiovisual infrastructure is becoming deeply integrated into corporate IT environments.

This convergence is expected to be one of the most discussed topics across the exhibition’s AV Integration and Unified Communications sectors.

Artificial Intelligence Enters Everyday Business

Artificial intelligence is no longer an emerging concept. It has become a practical tool that is transforming professional workflows across industries.

At Mediatech Africa 2026, visitors will encounter AI-powered technologies designed to improve efficiency across content creation, production, collaboration and communication environments.

These solutions include automated editing platforms, intelligent camera tracking systems, workflow automation tools, content management software and advanced analytics platforms that help businesses work faster and smarter.

Broadcast and Streaming Become More Flexible

The broadcast industry continues to evolve at remarkable speed.

Cloud production, remote contribution and IP-based workflows are creating new opportunities for broadcasters, content creators and production teams. Flexibility, scalability and efficiency have become essential requirements for modern media organisations.

Visitors will be able to explore technologies supporting live streaming, remote production, cloud collaboration and content distribution, helping organisations adapt to an increasingly digital media landscape.

Screens Are Bigger, Brighter and More Connected

Display technology remains one of the fastest-growing sectors within professional AV.

From retail environments and educational institutions to corporate campuses and live events, organisations are using larger, brighter and more intelligent screens to engage audiences and communicate more effectively.

Mediatech Africa visitors will experience the latest generation of LED displays, digital signage solutions, interactive touchscreens and large-format visual technologies that are redefining audience engagement.

Live Experiences Reach New Levels of Immersion

Audiences today expect more than simply watching an event. They want to experience it.

Whether attending concerts, conferences, sporting events, worship services or product launches, people increasingly expect immersive visual and audio environments.

Advancements in intelligent lighting, professional sound systems, LED display technology and show control solutions are helping event organisers create bigger, more dynamic and memorable experiences than ever before.

Visitors will be able to experience these innovations firsthand through live demonstrations featuring large-format LED screens, intelligent lighting fixtures, networked audio systems and advanced sound reinforcement technologies.

One Event, Countless Possibilities

Beyond these headline trends, Mediatech Africa 2026 will showcase technologies spanning professional audio, lighting, staging, film production, content creation, DJ equipment, broadcast solutions, unified communications, commercial displays and AV integration.

For businesses, creators, educators, broadcasters and technology enthusiasts, the event offers a rare opportunity to see the future of communication and entertainment technology in action.

As Robinson explains, Mediatech Africa provides a unique platform where visitors can explore emerging innovations, engage directly with industry experts and gain valuable insight into where technology is heading next.

With artificial intelligence accelerating innovation, collaboration tools becoming smarter and live experiences growing more immersive, Mediatech Africa 2026 arrives at a moment when technology is transforming every industry.

For three days in Johannesburg, the future will not simply be discussed. It will be on display.
