Canon’s New Scanner Puts Speed and Smarts on Every Desk

Canon South Africa has expanded its compact document scanner range with the imageFORMULA DR-C360, bringing high-speed scanning, flexible media handling and intelligent document processing to modern workplaces.

The office may be changing, but one thing has not disappeared: paper.

From government forms and banking documents to healthcare records, legal paperwork and customer identification, businesses still need to capture information quickly, accurately and securely.

Canon South Africa is targeting that reality with its latest addition to the imageFORMULA range.

Launched for channel partners on 1 September 2026, the imageFORMULA DR-C360 is a compact desktop document scanner designed for corporate and government organisations, as well as regulated sectors including banking, finance, healthcare and legal services.

It arrives as part of a workplace landscape that is becoming increasingly distributed.

Hybrid working, smaller offices, remote teams and front-of-house environments are changing where and how documents are captured. Canon says the new model gives partners another option for customers looking for a scanner that combines productivity with a space-saving footprint.

And it does so without treating the desktop as an afterthought.

Small footprint. Serious productivity.

Space is increasingly valuable in modern workplaces.

The DR-C360 addresses that with an ultra-compact, narrow design and a footprint that Canon describes as one of the smallest in its category.

At just 283mm wide, the DR-C300 Series is designed to fit into environments where desk space can be limited.

That makes the range suited to settings such as branch offices, remote offices, reception areas, customer engagement points and shared business environments.

But the DR-C360 is not simply about being small.

It is built for speed.

The scanner can process up to 60 pages per minute, equivalent to up to 120 images per minute when scanning both sides of a document. Its 100-sheet Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) is designed to handle larger batches with minimal user intervention.

For businesses dealing with high volumes of paperwork, that combination can turn document capture into a far more efficient part of the daily workflow.

From passports to everyday paperwork

Modern document capture is rarely limited to standard A4 pages.

The DR-C360 is designed to handle a variety of media, including passports directly without requiring a protective carrier sheet.

That flexibility is particularly relevant to organisations that regularly capture identification documents.

Government departments, financial services companies, insurers, legal businesses and rental and leasing companies can all face situations where customer identification needs to be captured quickly and accurately.

The DR-C360 is designed with those environments in mind.

The software does more than scan

The hardware is only part of the story.

Canon includes its CaptureOnTouch Pro software, which allows users to digitise paper documents and process files into different formats using intelligent technologies such as OCR and barcode recognition.

Users can also scan or import existing files for conversion into multiple formats.

The software supports flexible file delivery options, including destinations such as SharePoint, network folders and cloud applications.

For channel partners, there is another significant feature: the CaptureOnTouch Pro licence-free plug-in SDK.

This allows partners to create customised integrations that can add value to customer workflows without additional software licensing costs.

That means the scanner can be positioned not simply as a device sitting beside a computer, but as part of a wider document workflow.

Better scans, fewer rescans

Speed means little if the resulting documents are difficult to read.

The DR-C360 incorporates advanced image-processing technologies, including Active Threshold and enhanced highlighting capabilities, to help deliver consistent image quality and clarity.

The wider DR-C300 Series also includes image-processing tools such as Fill Background, Colour Emphasis and Document with Photo Mode.

The goal is straightforward: improve the quality of captured documents while reducing the need to scan them again.

For organisations processing large volumes of paperwork, that matters.

Every avoided rescan saves time.

Designed with efficiency in mind

Canon has also considered energy consumption and materials in the DR-C360’s design.

The scanner uses less power during scanning than comparable models, helping organisations work towards lower total costs of ownership.

Its redesigned roller replacement kit uses fewer materials and generates less waste than previous versions.

Packaging is also made from reusable and biodegradable materials, helping reduce plastic consumption.

These details may sit behind the scenes, but they form part of a broader approach to making document capture more efficient.

Three scanners, one compact family

The DR-C360 joins the existing imageFORMULA DR-C340 and DR-C350 in Canon’s DR-C300 Series.

The DR-C340 offers scanning speeds of up to 40 pages per minute, while the DR-C350 reaches up to 50 pages per minute.

The DR-C360 is the fastest model in the series, reaching 60 pages per minute and up to 120 images per minute when capturing both sides.

All three models feature a 100-sheet ADF and share the series’ ultra-narrow 283mm width.

They also offer advanced image-processing features, an icon-based display, physical buttons and USB Type-C connectivity.

That gives channel partners three compact options for matching different customer requirements.

Built for the way offices work now

The traditional office scanner was often associated with a dedicated back-office environment.

The DR-C360 points towards something different.

A scanner can now sit at a reception desk, inside a branch, at a customer service point or in a smaller remote office — wherever documents need to move from paper into a digital workflow.

Its combination of compact dimensions, high-speed scanning, flexible media handling and intelligent processing reflects that shift.

For Canon’s channel partners, the addition also creates another opportunity in a market where businesses continue to look for ways to make document-heavy processes faster and more flexible.

The result is a scanner designed to take up less space while doing considerably more work.

Canon’s imageFORMULA DR-C360 is now expanding the company’s compact desktop scanning portfolio, giving modern businesses another way to turn paper into usable digital information — faster, smarter and with fewer interruptions.
