The clock is ticking as the submission deadline for the highly anticipated FAME Shorts Film Festival 2024 approaches.

Filmmakers from across the African continent and its diaspora are encouraged to submit their thought-provoking and innovative short films before the deadline on April 26, 2024.

The FAME Shorts Film Festival is a celebration of independent African cinema, showcasing the diverse narratives and creative talents of filmmakers who dare to tell stories that resonate with audiences worldwide. From documentaries that delve into cultural heritage to narrative films that explore modern life and diasporic identity, the festival offers a platform for filmmakers to share their unique perspectives and connect with industry professionals.

“We’re thrilled to see the incredible response from filmmakers as we near the submission deadline for the FAME Shorts Film Festival 2024,” says Martin Hiller, Portfolio Director for FAME Week Africa, “This year’s festival promises to be an unforgettable celebration of African storytelling and we can’t wait to see the amazing films that will grace our screens.” Hiller adds, “The high quality of films already submitted is a testament to the unbelievable creative talent in Africa. We’re witnessing a renaissance in African cinema, and the FAME Shorts Film Festival is at the forefront of this exciting movement.”

Submissions are welcome across six categories, each judged by industry trailblazers:

• Best Documentary Short Film
• Best Narrative Short Film
• Best Animated Short Film
• Best Student Short Film
• Best LGBTQ+ Short Film

The festival not only serves as a platform for filmmakers to showcase their work but also offers a range of events and opportunities for professional development. From content sessions to workshops and masterclasses, filmmakers will have the chance to learn from industry professionals and connect with fellow creatives.

The FAME Shorts Film Festival, in partnership with MIP Africa, will take place from September 5th to 7th, 2024, at the Labia Theatre, Cape Town. The festival will feature screenings of selected films, panel discussions, networking opportunities and the much-anticipated FAME After Dark, where live music will complement the cinematic experience.

Filmmakers are encouraged to submit their films by April 26, 2024, for consideration. Notifications for selected films will be sent out by June 18, 2024.

Don’t miss out on the chance to be part of the excitement at the FAME Shorts Film Festival 2024. Submit your film today and join us in celebrating the best of independent African cinema.
