Skincare in the 21st century is multi-faceted, highly advanced and hugely invested in markets across the globe. Consumers have become more conscious of their skin and taking care of the skin they are in and therefore, the publics that we have today are far more educated on ingredients, formulations and are clear on what they expect from their products and brands. ISDIN South Africa, a global skincare brand believes that there are four vitally important things they have aligned themselves to throughout the years that makes them standout as a trusted, honest brand that has your skin at the centre of their development, and not only that – they aim to make a positive impact in the communities they are present in around the world.

Karlo Mitchell from Glenmark Pharmaceuticals, the distributors of ISDIN® to the local consumer base said: “ISDIN® has been a leading brand in dermatology markets in several European and Latin American countries for many decades, which speaks to the clinical evidence and research behind each product, but also sensory experience of using the products and the care put into every bottle.”

Skincare concerns such as keratosis pilaris, atopic eczema and psoriasis are all accounted for in the range while their effectiveness in skin hydration, fighting the signs of skin ageing and offering advanced sun protection is backed up by clinical evidence and research spanning over 40 years.

Behind the Brand

Originating in Spain, ISDIN® was first established in Barcelona in 1975. Two friends, both from local, family-owned businesses specialising in world-class science and beauty, embarked on a sailing trip. Inspired by their adventure, they found a new dream: to develop advanced skincare driven by health and joy. The company adopts a lifestyle born from Mediterranean heritage. One that is infused with healthy habits, inspired by an appreciation of the beauty in every day.

With an industry-leading understanding of sun protection and enjoyable textures, ISDIN® quickly became a global benchmark in dermatology. Today, people in over 40 countries enjoy the skincare range. The brand is the leading sun care brand in Spain because all the products combine maximum efficacy and safety with innovative textures that offer a satisfying sensory experience and an optimum balance between scientific precision and cosmetic perfection. Providing complete skin treatment solutions aimed at curing, prevention and caring, ISDIN® has the backing of dermatologists and pharmacists.

The inspiring differentiating factors you should know about

Committed to your skin and the planet. Touching, discovering, feeling — your skin and environment are interconnected. There isn’t one without the other. That’s why ISDIN® has been working to care for your skin and our planet for over 45 years.

Eradicate skin cancer. It’s 1 of every 3 cancers diagnosed. But consistent research, awareness and social action can fight it. Join their movement for a world without skin cancer. They actively work to achieve this goal through:

  • Partnering with the University of Barcelona, the International School of Derma (ISD) fosters academic exchange among dermatology professionals worldwide. It serves as a community for training, research & innovation. The aim? To make advanced skin science more accessible and empower future leaders.
  • Worldwide, albinism dramatically increases the risk of skin cancer. But in Mozambique, Africa, the instance of cases is up to 95%. That’s why their yearly donation of over 80,000 sunscreens is only the beginning of their commitment.
  • In partnership with the NGO Africa Directo, ISDIN® trains local medics and sends members of their international network of dermatologists to provide much-needed care for people with albinism. They have treated over 650 patients and sponsored over 200 surgeries to date.
  • For almost 30 years and in 12 countries, ISDIN’s School Sun Protection Program has partnered with local pharmacists and dermatologists to teach kids how to have fun in the sun safely. Collaborating with global tennis champion Carlos Alcaraz, they recently founded ISDIN Ball Kids. Their tennis partners host exciting children’s events and use their platform to share the importance of sun care while staying healthy and active outdoors.

Rejuvenate the Mediterranean Sea. It’s not just our home, but an abundant source of inspiration, resources and research. The company aims to preserve and regenerate it. 50 percent of the planet’s oxygen is produced by the oceans. ISDIN® has created the Bluewave Alliance, its non-profit initiative that works to regenerate the health of the Mediterranean Sea. Read more here.

  • Did you know that 50% of the plastic in our Sea is from fishing nets? Their aim is to remove 65,000 kg of this waste. Together with Gravity Wave, they work to collect, recycle and transform fishing nets into sustainable furniture.
  • Seagrasses, with their incredible ability to store carbon emissions, are known as “the lungs of the sea”. And one of most ancient seagrass meadows lies in the Mediterranean. They work to replant and recover this vital part of marine biodiversity.

B-Corp Certified. The brand is proud to use skincare as a force for good. B Corp certification is awarded by the non-profit B Lab and recognises companies committed to transparent, responsible & sustainable business practices. ISDIN® is one of 6,000 Certified B Corporations worldwide, reflecting its dedication to wellness and responsible practices. The company’s 2030 goals include:

  • Eco-design over 95% of its packaging
  • Use a minimum of 25% recycled materials
  • Ensure all of their raw materials are certified with the highest social & environmental criteria
  • Transform all production facilities into zero-waste sites and achieve carbon neutrality and reduce direct carbon emissions by 50%
  • Become the benchmark in fighting skin cancer
