A Christmas Miracle in Motion: Two Extraordinary Choirs Light Up the 2025 Christmas Spectacular

In a season defined by warmth, wonder, and the search for something that truly moves the soul, the 2025 Christmas Spectacular is delivering a gift far greater than a show — it is creating a moment. A moment where sight meets sound, where silence finds a language, and where the full spirit of Christmas is brought to life through two remarkable choirs sharing one unforgettable stage.

This year’s production at the SunBet Arena in Menlyn is taking its legacy of excellence to new heights with the inclusion of the Magaliesberg Children’s Choir and the Hands of Harmony Choir from the Transoranje School for the Deaf — a pairing that brings youth, purity, inclusivity, and emotional resonance to a show already brimming with South Africa’s most beloved voices.

Directed by theatre legend Frans Swart and musically guided by the renowned Chanie Jonker, the Christmas Spectacular promises not only technical brilliance but heart — the kind that stirs audiences into remembering why this season matters.

A Celebration of Spirit: Two Choirs, One Message

Voices of Light: The Magaliesberg Children’s Choir

Led by Hannelie van Sittert, the internationally celebrated Magaliesberg Children’s Choir brings with it a three-decade legacy of excellence. Their crystal-clear harmonies have travelled from Pretoria to Prague, from Italian cathedrals to world stages — earning gold medals, standing ovations, and a reputation as one of South Africa’s finest youth ensembles.

Their presence at the Christmas Spectacular is more than musical — it is symbolic. A reminder that Christmas has always belonged to children. Their innocence, their hope, their wide-eyed belief in goodness. Their voices promise to unlock the heart of every adult listening.

Silence Turned Into Song: The Hands of Harmony Choir

Perhaps the most poignant moment of this year’s Spectacular will come from those who cannot hear the music at all.

The Hands of Harmony Choir, led by Carmen Bredenkamp and Megan Bester, transforms the stage into a visual symphony. Through movement, rhythm, expression, and South African Sign Language, the learners reinterpret the Christmas message in a way that transcends sound.

They do not hear the melodies — they feel them.
They do not follow the rhythm — they live it through emotion.
They do not sing the lyrics — they embody them with their hands.

Their inclusion is not just a creative choice — it is a profound declaration that Christmas is universal. That joy belongs to everyone. That art can unify us beyond language.

A Stage Filled With South Africa’s Finest

Alongside the two choirs, the production boasts an exceptional cast of celebrated performers:

Alwyn Oberholster · Anna Davel · Andrè Schwartz · Arina de Witt · Cordelia · Corlea Botha · Fatman (Johan Brummer) · Leon Gropp · Louis Loock · Mari Bosman · Stephanie Baartman · Timothy Moloi

Together with a full live band, the artists weave a sonic tapestry that ranges from triumphant to tender.

Director Frans Swart expresses his excitement:

“To have both choirs together on one stage is a privilege. Their combined sound, emotion, and presence will elevate the show to something truly unforgettable.”

Fresh from receiving a Star Award from the Roodepoort Theatre for his 30-year contribution to South African theatre, Swart leads a production rooted deeply in excellence, community and craftsmanship.

Where Christmas Becomes a Shared Experience

More than a show, the Christmas Spectacular is an invitation:
To feel.
To remember.
To celebrate.
To witness the power of music — and movement — to heal, unite, and uplift.

For families, churches, companies, and communities, the event promises to be the perfect start to the festive season.
